Text: Isaiah 58 7-14
7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy reward.
9 Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day:
11 And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
14 Then shalt thou delight thyself in the Lord; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
THE REWARDS OF WALKING AND SHINING IN THE LIGHT
Memory verse: Psalm 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
Walking and shining in the light of God brings immeasurable blessings, both in this life and in eternity. God does not call us to holiness, truth, and witness without attaching glorious promises. Every step in His light positions us to experience His presence, favour, and eternal rewards.
First, walking in the light brings fellowship with God and His people. According to 1 John 1:7, “If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.” As you walk in truth and holiness, you enjoy unhindered communion with God and a healthy spiritual bond with others.
Secondly, shining the light attracts divine protection and guidance. Isaiah 60:1–2 reminds us that while darkness covers the earth, the glory of the Lord rises upon those who shine His light. This glory becomes a covering, distinguishing you and guiding you in difficult seasons.
Thirdly, those who shine the light receive eternal rewards. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16 that your good works will cause men to glorify your Father in heaven. On that day, every hidden act of love, every bold stand for truth, and every effort to reflect Christ will be rewarded openly. Revelation 22:5 assures us that in eternity, you will reign with Him in everlasting light.
Fourthly Walking in the light produces inner joy, peace, and clarity. Unlike those stumbling in darkness, you that shines Christ’s light sees life from God’s perspective. This perspective gives confidence, direction, and stability in every situation.
Finally, the greatest reward is beholding the fullness of God’s glory. Today we experience His light in part, but one day we shall see Him face to face and be fully transformed into His likeness 1 John 3:2. That eternal encounter is the ultimate reward of walking faithfully in His light.
COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 27: SS&S 173 THERE’S A LIGHT THAT IS SHINING IN DARKNESS
- There’s a light that is shining in darkness,
While we wait for the dawning of day;
And it cheers us along on our journey,
Till the shadows shall vanish away !
- So we’ll wait and watch for the dawning,
The day of eternity blest;
Then take the wings of the morning,
And fly away to our rest.
- From the sure word the prophets
have spoken, [the gloom;
There is light flashing forth through
For the Scripture can never be broken,
And the King in His glory will come.
- Now we sing ‘mid the darkness and shadows, ;
And we pray and we watch for the dawn
Till the Day-star, in glory arising,
Shall betoken the coming of morn.
His Second Coming
- We are not of the night nor of darkness,
Let us walk, then, as children of day;
Our weeping shall be for a moment,
And our joy shall ne’er vanish away !
Today’s Prayer
- Father, help me to walk in Your light daily and receive the blessings You have prepared.
- Lord, let my shining bring glory to You and lead others to salvation.
- Holy Spirit, keep me faithful until I receive the eternal reward of everlasting light.
