OCTOBER 2026 MIDNIGHT ENCOUNTER: “THE FEAR OF THE LORD” Restoring reverence, holiness, and intimacy with God.

BIBLE TEXT: PROVERBS 9:10–11

10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

MEMORY VERSE: PROVERBS 1:7 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

A child who truly loves and respects his father does not merely obey when the father is watching. He honours his father’s instructions even in his absence because he values their relationship and understands the wisdom behind his guidance. The fear of the Lord is not terror that drives us away from God; it is reverence that draws us closer to Him. It produces obedience, humility, holiness, and a sincere desire to please Him in every area of life.

The fear of the Lord is the foundation of a meaningful relationship with God. It is the recognition of His holiness, majesty, sovereignty, righteousness, and authority over all creation. To fear God is to honour Him above every human opinion, treasure His Word, depart from evil, and live with a sincere desire to please Him. In a generation where many people desire God’s blessings without embracing His instructions, the Holy Spirit is calling us back to reverence, holiness, obedience, and intimacy with our Heavenly Father.

The fear of the Lord is not merely an outward display of religion. It is an inward conviction that influences our thoughts, speech, choices, relationships, private conduct, and public responsibilities. It teaches us to hate evil, reject compromise, respect God’s presence, and honour His commandments even when obedience is inconvenient.

During this October 2026 Midnight Encounter, we shall pray for the restoration of godly reverence, purity of heart, hatred of sin, obedience to God’s Word, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, and a deeper fellowship with our Creator.

“O Lord, restore in me the true fear of Your name. Give me a heart that honours Your presence, obeys Your Word, hates evil, pursues holiness, and delights in intimate fellowship with You. Let my life bring You pleasure, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.”

1. PRAY FOR THE RESTORATION OF THE TRUE FEAR OF THE LORD

Proverbs 14:26–27

26 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.

27 The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

A strong building remains standing because its foundation is firmly established beneath the surface. Although storms may come, the building is not easily displaced because its stability rests on something deeper than its outward appearance. The fear of the Lord is the spiritual foundation of a stable Christian life. When reverence for God governs our hearts, we gain confidence, resist temptation, and remain anchored in His truth despite life’s pressures.

Prayer Points

  • Father, restore the genuine fear for Your name in my heart, that I may honour You above every earthly authority and desire, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  • Lord, deliver me from every attitude of carelessness, irreverence, and spiritual familiarity that diminishes my respect for Your holiness, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  • Father, let the fear for your name become a fountain of life within me, preserving my soul from destructive choices and spiritual dangers, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

2. PRAY FOR A HEART THAT HATES EVIL AND DEPARTS FROM SIN

Proverbs 8:13–14

13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.

A person who discovers poison in a drinking vessel does not negotiate with it or preserve it for occasional use; he removes it because he understands its danger. Genuine reverence for God produces a holy hatred for sin. We cannot claim to honour God’s holiness while deliberately protecting the habits, attitudes, and practices that grieve Him. The fear of the Lord gives us courage to reject evil, abandon compromise, and choose righteousness even when temptation appears attractive.

Prayer Points

  • Father, purify my heart and give me the grace to hate every form of evil, including pride, deceit, impurity, and unrighteousness, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  • Lord, empower me to break free from every sinful habit and secret compromise that weakens my fellowship with You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  • Father, strengthen my convictions so that I will choose righteousness over temporary pleasure and obedience over the approval of people, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

3. PRAY FOR OBEDIENCE TO THE WORD AND COMMANDMENTS OF GOD

Deuteronomy 10:12–13

12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

13 To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?

A passenger who trusts a skilled pilot follows the safety instructions because they are designed to protect life, not to restrict enjoyment. God’s commandments are not intended to destroy our freedom but to direct us toward life, peace, and righteousness. The fear of the Lord moves us beyond merely hearing Scripture to practising it. When we obey God’s Word, our decisions reflect His wisdom, and our lives increasingly demonstrate our love for Him.

Prayer Points

  • Father, give me a willing heart to obey Your Word completely, even when obedience requires sacrifice, patience, or personal discomfort, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  • Lord, deliver me from selective obedience and every tendency to follow Your instructions only when they agree with my preferences, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  • Father, let Your commandments guide my conduct, relationships, responsibilities, and decisions, so that my life may continually please You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

4. PRAY FOR HOLINESS AND PURITY OF HEART

1 Peter 1:15–16

15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;

16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

A mirror reflects an image clearly when its surface is clean, but dirt and stains distort what it reveals. Although God’s holiness never changes, sin can interfere with our spiritual sensitivity and damage our fellowship with Him. The fear of the Lord calls us to examine our hearts continually, confess our wrongs, and pursue purity in private and public life. Holiness is not merely an outward appearance; it is a wholehearted commitment to honouring God in everything we do.

Prayer Points

  • Father, cleanse my heart from every defilement and create within me a sincere desire to live in holiness before You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  • Lord, help me maintain purity in my thoughts, conversations, relationships, online activities, and private conduct, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  • Father, let my life reflect Your holy character, and give me grace to reject every influence that encourages moral or spiritual compromise, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

5. PRAY FOR DEEPER INTIMACY AND FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD

James 4:8–9

8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

A friendship grows stronger when two people make time to communicate honestly, listen attentively, and respond with love. When communication disappears, closeness gradually weakens, even if the relationship still exists. Our fellowship with God also requires intentional attention through prayer, worship, Scripture, repentance, and obedience. The fear of the Lord does not make us hide from God; it encourages us to approach Him with humility, sincerity, and a heart that desires His presence above every distraction.

Prayer Points

  • Father, awaken within me a deeper hunger for Your presence, Your Word, and meaningful fellowship with You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  • Lord, remove every spiritual distraction, hidden sin, and divided affection that weakens my communion with You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  • Father, teach me to seek You consistently in prayer and worship, and let my relationship with You become stronger each day, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

6. PRAY FOR HUMILITY AND A TEACHABLE SPIRIT

Proverbs 15:32–33

32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

A cup that is already full cannot receive more water until some of its contents are poured out. A person who believes that he knows everything becomes difficult to teach and may repeatedly make avoidable mistakes. The fear of the Lord reminds us that God is the source of true wisdom and that we always have room to grow. Humility allows us to receive correction, learn from experience, acknowledge our limitations, and become wiser through godly instruction.

Prayer Points

  • Father, deliver me from pride, self-sufficiency, and the assumption that my knowledge is greater than Your wisdom, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  • Lord, give me a teachable spirit that receives correction graciously and learns from Your Word and godly counsel, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  • Father, clothe me with humility in my family, ministry, workplace, and relationships, and prepare me for the honour that comes through obedience, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

7. PRAY FOR THE MANIFESTATION OF THE BLESSINGS OF THE FEAR OF THE LORD

Psalm 112:1–2

1 Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.

2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

A tree planted in fertile soil develops strong roots, produces healthy branches, and eventually bears fruit that benefits others. A life rooted in the fear of the Lord can produce lasting spiritual fruit and godly influence. Reverence for God shapes our character, guides our decisions, and influences the next generation. The blessings associated with fearing God extend beyond material provision; they include spiritual growth, righteous living, faithful service, and a legacy that points others toward Him.

Prayer Points

  • Father, let the blessings associated with the fear of the Lord be evident in my spiritual life, family, work, and service to You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  • Lord, establish a legacy of reverence, righteousness, faithfulness, and obedience to You in my household and future generations, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  • Father, make my life a testimony of Your goodness, and let my conduct inspire others to honour, love, and serve You faithfully, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Declarations

In the mighty, matchless, and sovereign name of Jesus Christ, I rise in faith and declare that the fear of the Lord shall be established permanently in my heart, my household, my ministry, and every area of my life! I reject every spirit of irreverence, rebellion, pride, disobedience, spiritual carelessness, and contempt for the things of God. I shall not live carelessly before the God who created me, redeemed me, called me, and appointed me for His purpose.

I declare that my heart belongs to God, my life belongs to God, my future belongs to God, and my worship belongs to God! No pressure, temptation, worldly attraction, human opinion, or satanic deception shall turn my heart away from Him. I shall not exchange my divine inheritance for temporary pleasure, compromise my convictions for human approval, or abandon the truth for personal convenience, in the name of Jesus!

By the power of the Holy Spirit, I receive grace to hate evil, reject sin, overcome temptation, and walk in righteousness. Every secret habit that weakens my spiritual life, every hidden compromise that damages my fellowship with God, and every stubborn attitude that resists His correction must give way to genuine repentance and transformation. Sin shall not rule my heart; compromise shall not control my decisions; and disobedience shall not determine my destiny!

I declare that my spiritual altar shall burn with fresh fire! My prayer life shall not die, my hunger for God’s Word shall not diminish, my love for His presence shall not grow cold, and my ears shall remain sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Every force drawing me into spiritual dryness, prayerlessness, deception, and lukewarmness shall be resisted through faith, obedience, and the grace of God.

I receive divine boldness to stand for righteousness when others compromise, to speak the truth when falsehood is celebrated, to remain holy when ungodliness is popular, and to obey God when obedience demands sacrifice. I shall not bow to the idols of money, power, position, popularity, or human approval. The Lord alone shall occupy the throne of my heart!

I declare that pride shall not destroy me, bitterness shall not poison me, deception shall not blind me, and temptation shall not overcome me. I receive a humble heart, a clean conscience, a disciplined spirit, and an unwavering commitment to the Word of God. Every correction I need to receive, I shall receive; every sinful path I need to abandon, I shall abandon; and every divine instruction I need to obey, I shall obey by God’s enabling grace.

As for my household, we shall serve the Lord! The fear of God shall influence our decisions, govern our relationships, guide our children, and shape our family values. Our homes shall become places of prayer, holiness, peace, truth, and godly instruction. We shall raise generations that honour God, love His Word, reject evil, and remain faithful to Jesus Christ.

I declare that my life shall become a testimony of transformed character, spiritual maturity, divine wisdom, and faithful service. My conduct shall honour the Gospel I preach, my decisions shall reflect the God I serve, and my service shall bring glory to His name.

From this October onward, I will not merely speak about holiness; I will pursue holiness. I will not merely profess the fear of God; I will demonstrate it. I will not merely hear His Word; I will obey it. I will not merely seek His blessings; I will seek His face, honour His presence, and submit to His authority!

By the grace of God, I shall finish my race faithfully, fulfil my divine assignment, preserve my faith, and remain steadfast in Christ until the end. The fear of the Lord shall be my foundation, the Word of God shall be my standard, the Holy Spirit shall strengthen me, and Jesus Christ shall remain Lord over every dimension of my life.

I AM SET APART FOR GOD! I AM COMMITTED TO HOLINESS! I AM ROOTED IN THE FEAR OF THE LORD! I WILL NOT TURN BACK FROM FOLLOWING JESUS CHRIST!

In the mighty, victorious, and eternal name of Jesus Christ, I declare. AMEN! AMEN!! AMEN!!!

THE GRACE IN FELLOWSHIP

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the sweet fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. May the fear of the Lord fill our hearts and govern our lives. May we hate evil, walk in holiness, and remain steadfast in obedience to God’s Word. May every spirit of pride, rebellion, irreverence, and spiritual lukewarmness lose its influence over our lives. May our prayer altars burn with fresh fire, and may our hunger for God’s presence continually increase. May our homes, children, ministries, businesses, and generations be established in the fear of the Lord. May our lives reflect the holiness of Christ, and may our conduct bring glory to God’s name. May we receive grace to finish our race faithfully, fulfil our divine assignments, and remain steadfast in Christ until the end. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the sweet fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all, now and forevermore. Amen!

Goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives, and we shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Surely, the fear of the Lord shall be our foundation. Surely, we shall walk in holiness and obedience all the days of our lives. Surely, our households shall serve the Lord, and our generations shall honour His holy name. Surely, we shall not fall away, but remain faithful to Jesus Christ until the end. Surely, our lives shall bring glory to God, and His purpose shall be fulfilled in us.

WE SHALL FEAR THE LORD, WALK IN HOLINESS, LIVE IN OBEDIENCE, AND ABIDE IN HIS PRESENCE ALL THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES, IN JESUS’ MIGHTY NAME. AMEN!
