Text: Genesis 3:1-6
1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
THE PROCESS OF FLIRTING WITH DARKNESS
Memory Verse: Proverbs 14:12 “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
Apostle James said in James 1:14–15 “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”
Flirting with darkness does not happen overnight. No one wakes up suddenly enslaved by sin. The fall is usually a gradual process, an inward drift that begins long before visible collapse. James outlines the clear stages: temptation, enticement, conception of sin, and ultimately death.
Temptation, The Lure: Temptation begins when personal desires are stirred. The enemy does not always force sin; he whispers suggestions to what already exists in the heart. For example, an unchecked desire for power, pleasure, or recognition can become the entry point for compromise.
Enticement, The Hook: Temptation becomes enticement when we dwell on it. Like a bait before a fish, the idea looks harmless at first. But lingering thoughts, secret imaginations, and rationalizing little compromises make the desire stronger. This is where many believers fail, not in the act, but in tolerating the thought.
Conception, The Birth of Sin: When desire is entertained, it joins with the opportunity to produce sinful actions. Just as pregnancy begins unseen, sin first takes root in secret. But given time, it grows until it manifests openly.
Death, The Final Outcome: Sin’s end is destruction. What begins as “just a thought” becomes a bondage, shame, and eparation from God. This is why The Scripture warns us to resist sin at the earliest stage, not after it has matured.
A spark of fire near a dry wood.at first, looks small, insignificant, and harmless. But if ignored, the spark becomes a flame, the flame a fire, and the fire a raging inferno that consumes everything. In the same way, secret compromises left unchecked eventually consume a man’s soul.
COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 87 “REDEEMED FROM CHAINS OF DARKNESS” By Apostle James Abache
- From the depths of darkest night,
Where the shadows hide the light,
I was bound in chains of fear,
Held by powers far and near.
But my Savior heard my cry,
Spoke His name and set me free.
Now in His grace, I rise and stand,
Redeemed by His mighty hand.
Refrain:
I am free, I am free,
By His blood, delivered me!
No more chains, no more strife,
I am saved, and restored to life.
Hallelujah, praise the King,
From the pit, He’s called me out to sing!
- Satan’s whispers lost their power,
In the light of that great hour,
When the Lord’s voice called me whole,
Restoring peace unto my soul.
No more torment, no more night,
I am free in His great light.
He has broken every chain,
Nevermore to be enslaved!
Bridge:
In His name, the demons flee,
At His feet, I find my peace.
Victory, forever mine,
In the blood of Christ divine!
- Now I walk in freedom’s light,
With my Savior by my side,
For the One who freed my soul,
Now leads me to a life made whole.
I’ll forever praise His name,
For He broke the devil’s claim,
And forever I will sing,
Of the One who is my King.
Today’s Prayer
