COMPROMISING RIGHTEOUSNESS FOR CONVENIENCE

COMPROMISING RIGHTEOUSNESS FOR CONVENIENCE

Text: 2 Corinthians 6:14-18

14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?

16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

COMPROMISING RIGHTEOUSNESS FOR CONVENIENCE

Memory Verse: Hebrews 12:16 “Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.”

Revelation 3:16 “So, because you are lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”

Compromise occurs when a believer chooses convenience over conviction, when obedience to God becomes optional in the face of pressure, popularity, or personal comfort. Instead of standing firm, they may tell a small lie to avoid conflict, engage in questionable behaviour to keep a job, or lower godly standards to be accepted by others. These seemingly small choices reveal a heart that is lukewarm, not fully surrendered to God, yet not entirely turned away either.

In 2 Corinthians 6:12–18, Apostle Paul pleads with believers to separate themselves from spiritual compromise. He asked, “What communion hath light with darkness?” and reminds us that we are the temple of the living God. We cannot mix righteousness with unrighteousness without grieving the Holy Spirit and dulling our spiritual sensitivity.

Compromise is dangerous because it begins subtly. It may start with ignoring God’s prompting, justifying small sins, or silencing conviction to stay comfortable. But over time, this weakens faith. Like water that dilutes strong medicine, compromise weakens the power of righteousness in our lives. It does not always look destructive at first, but its effects are deep. Convictions fade. Boldness disappears. The fire of God grows cold.

Hebrews 12:16 warns us of Esau, who traded his spiritual inheritance for a single meal. He gave up something eternal for something temporary. In the same way, many believers today trade truth for convenience and lose something priceless.

Compromise and secrecy often go hand in hand. One hides the sin; the other explains it away. Together, they dim the light of Christ in a believer’s life until it’s nearly extinguished.

But God offers a better way. “Come out from among them,” He says, “and be ye separate.” 2 Corinthians 6:17. True righteousness may cost us temporary comfort, but it brings lasting peace, power, and closeness with God.

COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 87 “REDEEMED FROM CHAINS OF DARKNESS” By Apostle James Abache

  1. From the depths of darkest night,

Where the shadows hide the light,

I was bound in chains of fear,

Held by powers far and near.

But my Savior heard my cry,

Spoke His name and set me free.

Now in His grace, I rise and stand,

Redeemed by His mighty hand.

Refrain:

I am free, I am free,

By His blood, delivered me!

No more chains, no more strife,

I am saved, and restored to life.

Hallelujah, praise the King,

From the pit, He’s called me out to sing!

  1. Satan’s whispers lost their power,

In the light of that great hour,

When the Lord’s voice called me whole,

Restoring peace unto my soul.

No more torment, no more night,

I am free in His great light.

He has broken every chain,

Nevermore to be enslaved!

Bridge:

In His name, the demons flee,

At His feet, I find my peace.

Victory, forever mine,

In the blood of Christ divine!

  1. Now I walk in freedom’s light,

With my Savior by my side,

For the One who freed my soul,

Now leads me to a life made whole.

I’ll forever praise His name,

For He broke the devil’s claim,

And forever I will sing,

Of the One who is my King.

Today’s Prayer

  1. Lord, expose and uproot every secret compromise in my life.
  2. Father, strengthen me to stand for the truth even when it is inconvenient.
  3. Lord Jesus, rekindle my spiritual fire and keep me from lukewarmness.
