THE HOLY SPIRIT as INTERNAL COMMUNICATOR Conviction

Text: John 16:5–8

5 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

THE HOLY SPIRIT as INTERNAL COMMUNICATOR Conviction

  • Memory Verse: Proverbs 3:12 “For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.”Conviction is a vital function of the Holy Spirit through which He brings awareness of sin, error, or misalignment with God’s will. Conviction is not meant to destroy but to correct, restore, and guide you back into righteousness. It is a loving communication from God that protects spiritual growth and preserves divine relationship.

    Conviction works internally through the conscience and spirit. It creates a clear awareness when something is wrong and encourages repentance and correction. Conviction brings clarity and direction, helping believers stay aligned with God’s truth. It produces humility, godly sorrow, and a desire to change. Its purpose is restoration, not rejection.

    Conviction comes from the Holy Spirit and leads to peace after correction, while condemnation comes from the enemy and produces shame, fear, and hopelessness. Conviction says, “This is wrong, but you can be restored.” Condemnation says, “You are wrong and beyond recovery.” The Holy Spirit corrects with love and provides a path forward.

    Conviction is like a warning light on a vehicle dashboard. The light does not exist to punish the driver but to alert them to a problem that needs attention. Ignoring the warning can cause damage, but responding quickly preserves the vehicle. Conviction protects you from spiritual damage and keeps you on the right path.

    As you grow spiritually, you learn to recognize conviction quickly and respond with obedience. This will keep your spiritual life healthy and your relationship with God strong.

    Action Plans:

    • Respond quickly to conviction through repentance and correction.
    • Maintain sensitivity through prayer and Scripture.
    • Reject condemnation and embrace God’s restoring grace.

COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 17; SS & S 23; TO GOD BE THE GLORY, GREAT THINGS HE HATH DONE

1.     To God be the glory, great things He hath done,
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life our redemption to win,
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.
Refrain

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice;
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice;
Oh, come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory; great things He hath done.

2.     Oh, perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.
3.     Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport when Jesus we see.
