Text: Joel 2:12–13
12 Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:
13 And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
Memory Verse: Isaiah 57:15 “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.”
When gold is placed in a furnace, the intense heat removes impurities and leaves behind pure metal. A contrite heart is a heart refined by humility and repentance. It recognizes its faults, turns sincerely to God, and allows Him to purify and restore it.
A contrite heart is deeply humble before God. It is not proud, defensive, or resistant to correction. Instead, it is sensitive to sin and eager to return to God’s ways. The word contrite describes a heart that is remorseful for wrongdoing and genuinely desires to change.
In Isaiah 66:2, God declares that the person He looks upon with favour is the one who is humble, contrite in spirit, and reverent toward His Word. This shows that God values the inner condition of the heart more than outward appearances or religious activities.
A contrite heart acknowledges personal weakness and depends on God’s mercy. Rather than justifying mistakes, it confesses them honestly and seeks restoration. This humility opens the door for God’s grace and forgiveness.
The Bible repeatedly shows that God draws near to those who approach Him with sincerity and repentance. A contrite heart attracts God’s compassion because it reflects a genuine desire for reconciliation and transformation. Such a heart remains teachable and responsive to God’s instruction. It does not harden itself against truth but welcomes correction and seeks to grow spiritually.
A contrite heart therefore becomes the foundation for deeper fellowship with God and lasting spiritual renewal.

COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 131 Break the Chains, O Lord (Tune: Amazing Grace) By Apostle James Abache
From darkness into day;
Break every chain and set us free,
And guide us in Your way.
Break the chains, O Lord, we pray,
And drive all fear away;
By Your blood we overcome,
And walk in endless day.
Are silenced by Your Word;
Through Jesus’ blood we overcome,
Our victory is secured.
For Christ has won the fight;
The grave is torn, new life is born,
We walk as children bright.
