Text: Psalm 51:16-17
16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Memory Verse: Psalm 34:18 “The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
When soil is hard and compacted, rainwater cannot penetrate it. Farmers often break the soil so that water can enter and nourish the ground. In the same way, a heart that has never been broken before God may remain closed to His grace. But when the heart is broken and humbled, it becomes open to God’s healing and transformation.
A broken heart in the Scripture does not mean a heart destroyed by despair. Rather, it refers to a heart that is humbled, repentant, and deeply aware of its need for God. It is a heart that recognizes its sin, weakness, and dependence on divine mercy.
King David expressed this understanding in Psalm 51 after he was confronted about his sin. Instead of offering excuses or defending himself, David came before God with humility and repentance. He acknowledged that the sacrifice God truly desires is not merely outward religious acts but an inwardly broken and contrite heart.
A broken heart allows God to restore what pride once damaged. When the heart is broken before God, it becomes teachable and sensitive to His correction. Such a heart seeks forgiveness, desires transformation, and longs for a renewed relationship with God.
God never despises a broken and contrite heart. Instead, He responds with mercy, forgiveness, and restoration. Brokenness before God becomes the beginning of spiritual renewal and deeper fellowship with Him.
True spiritual growth often begins at the moment when you humbly acknowledges your need for God and surrenders completely to His grace.

COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 90: The Power of God’s Redemption and Healing By Apostle James Abache
- In the darkness, lost and weary,
Bound by chains, no hope in sight,
God’s own hand came down so gently,
Bringing mercy, shining bright.
Through the storm and deepest sorrow,
He has come to set us free,
By His grace, we find tomorrow,
In His love, our victory.Refrain
Oh, the power of God’s redemption,
Healing hearts, and making whole,
From the depths, He lifts us higher,
Filling every broken soul.
By His stripes, we are forgiven,
In His grace, we find our healing,
Praise to Jesus, Redeemer,
Power of God’s love and revealing. - Once a captive to my fear,
Wounded, torn, and far from peace,
God’s own hand drew ever near,
And my burdens found release.
Now I stand, in awe and wonder,
In His presence, fully free,
All my wounds, He healed with love,
And He calls me to be whole in Thee. - Every chain now broken, shattered,
Every fear cast far away,
By His blood, our souls are gathered,
Into light, we walk today.
Let the healing waters flow,
Through His mercy, hearts are mended,
By His love, we overflow,
In His power, we are defended.Outro:
Glory, glory to the Savior,
Whose redemption sets us free,
He is our strength, our healer,
For all eternity.
