Text: 2 Kings 22:18–19
18 But to the king of Judah which sent you to enquire of the Lord, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, As touching the words which thou hast heard;
19 Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the Lord, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard thee, saith the Lord.
Memory Verse: Ezekiel 36:26 “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.”
Soft soil easily receives seed and allows it to grow into a healthy plant. But when the soil becomes hard and dry, seeds cannot penetrate it and growth becomes impossible. A tender heart receives God’s Word and allows it to grow into spiritual fruit.
A tender heart is sensitive and responsive to God. It listens carefully to His voice and willingly follows His direction. Unlike a hardened heart that resists correction, a tender heart quickly responds when God speaks.
God promises in Ezekiel 36:26 to replace the stony heart with a heart of flesh. This means a heart that is alive, sensitive, and responsive to His Spirit. A tender heart feels conviction when it has gone wrong and seeks restoration with God.
Such a heart remains humble, teachable, and open to transformation. It values God’s presence and desires to walk in obedience. When you cultivate a tender heart, you become more sensitive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit and more aligned with God’s will.
A tender heart also responds to the needs of others. It shows compassion, forgiveness, and patience because it reflects the character of God. Spiritual growth flourishes in a heart that remains soft toward God’s truth and His correction.
Maintaining a tender heart requires humility, regular self-examination, and a willingness to respond immediately when God speaks. As you remain close to God through prayer and His Word, your heart stay sensitive and receptive.
A tender heart allows God’s truth to take root and produce a life that reflects His love and righteousness.
