Text: Psalm 69:8–12
8 I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother’s children.
9 For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.
10 When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach.
11 I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them.
12 They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.
Memory Verse: Luke 24:32 “And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?”
A fire that is freshly ignited burns brightly and spreads warmth and light. But if the fire is neglected, it slowly fades and loses its intensity. The human heart can either burn with passion for God or grow cold through neglect and distraction. When God’s truth touches the heart, it ignites a spiritual fire that awakens faith and devotion.
In Luke 24, two disciples were walking on the road to Emmaus after the resurrection of Jesus. They were discouraged and confused about the events they had witnessed. As they walked, Jesus joined them and began explaining the Scriptures. Although they did not immediately recognize Him, something powerful happened within them. Later they said, “Did not our heart burn within us… while he opened to us the scriptures?”
Their hearts burned because God’s Word brought revelation, clarity, and renewed faith. When God speaks through His Word and His Spirit, it awakens passion in the heart. Truth does more than inform the mind, it ignites the soul.
A burning heart is characterized by hunger for God, love for His Word, and passion for His presence. It desires to know God more deeply and to live according to His truth. Such a heart is alive with spiritual energy and devotion.
However, spiritual passion must be nurtured. Regular fellowship with God through the Scripture, prayer, worship, and obedience keeps the fire of faith alive. When you remain close to God, your heart remain warm with love for Him.
God desires hearts that burn with devotion rather than hearts that grow cold or indifferent. When His truth fills the heart, it ignites a passion that strengthens faith and inspires faithful living.
