Bible Text: Jeremiah 23:16–17
16 This is what the Lord Almighty says:
“Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you;
they fill you with false hopes.
They speak visions from their own minds,
not from the mouth of the Lord.
17 They keep saying to those who despise me,
‘The Lord says: You will have peace.’
And to all who follow the stubbornness of their hearts
they say, ‘No harm will come to you.’
Memory Verse: Matthew 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”
False prophecy is an unauthorized, deceptive, or corrupt form of spiritual communication that does not originate from God. It is often produced from human imagination, personal desire, or deceptive spiritual influence rather than divine revelation. False prophecy misleads people by presenting messages that appear spiritual but lack God’s authority and truth.
False prophecy originates from the human heart, not from God. It may sound convincing, but it lacks divine authority. False prophets communicate messages based on personal opinion, emotional influence, or deception rather than God’s Spirit.
False prophecy often has recognizable characteristics:
- Appeals to desire: It tells people what they want to hear rather than what God is truly saying.
- Avoids correction: It avoids truth that calls for repentance, growth, or change.
- Rejects testing: It resists being examined or confirmed by the Scripture and spiritual discernment.
True prophecy aligns with God’s Word, produces peace, and strengthens spiritual growth. False prophecy, however, produces confusion, false hope, or spiritual error. This is why you must test every prophetic message and rely on the Scripture as the final authority.
False prophecy is like a counterfeit medical diagnosis. It may sound reassuring, but it hides the real condition and prevents proper treatment. Only the true diagnosis brings healing and safety.
Action Plans:
- Test every prophetic message with Scripture and prayer.
- Seek confirmation through the Holy Spirit.
- Reject messages that contradict God’s Word.
COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 29: SS&S 642: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD
- When we walk with the Lord in the light of his Word
What a glory he sheds on our way
While we do his good will, he abides with us still
And with all who will trust and obey
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey
- Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies
But his smile quickly drives it away
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh nor a tear
Can abide while we trust and obey
- Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share
But our toil he doth richly repay
Not a grief nor a loss, not a frown or a cross
But is blest if we trust and obey
- But we never can prove the delights of his love
Until all on the altar we lay
For the favor he shows, and the joy he bestows
Are for them who will trust and obey
- Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at his feet
Or we will walk by his side in the way
What he says we will do, where he sends we will go
Never fear, only trust and obey
Prayers:
- Father, protect me from every false prophetic communication.
- Lord, grant me discernment to recognize the truth from deception.
- Holy Spirit, guide me to walk only in alignment with Your Word.
