Text: James 4:6–10
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Memory Verse: Isaiah 57:15 “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit…”
Water always flows from a high point to the lowest point. No matter how high the mountain is, water naturally moves toward the valley. God’s grace flows to humble hearts. Pride lifts a person up in self-importance, but humility positions the heart where God’s presence can rest.
A humble heart recognizes its dependence on God. It understands that every gift, ability, and success ultimately comes from Him. Humility does not mean thinking less of oneself; it means thinking rightly about oneself in relation to God.
Isaiah 57:15 reveals a powerful truth: although God is the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, He chooses to dwell with the humble and contrite in spirit. This means that the presence of God is attracted not to pride or self-exaltation but to hearts that are broken, teachable, and surrendered.
Pride blocks divine grace because it resists correction and trusts in human strength rather than God’s wisdom. A proud heart believes it does not need help. But humility opens the door for God’s guidance, mercy, and favour.
Throughout the Scripture, God consistently honours humility. James 4:6 declares, “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.” When you walk humbly before God, you become receptive to His instruction and sensitive to His voice.
A humble heart is quick to acknowledge mistakes, willing to learn, and eager to give God the glory for every achievement. Such a heart draws closer to God because it depends on Him rather than on self.
Humility therefore becomes the pathway to deeper fellowship with God and greater spiritual growth.
Action Plans
- Practice acknowledging God as the source of every blessing and success in your life.
- Remain teachable and open to correction from God’s Word and godly counsel.
- Choose service and kindness toward others rather than seeking recognition.
COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 113: PEACE AND WHOLENESS; By Apostle James Abache
O Spirit of peace, descend on us,
Fill our hearts with calm and trust,
Bring the healing, bring the light,
That we may walk in love and might.
Restore our souls, make us whole,
Breathe Your peace into our soul.
Refrain:
Peace, O peace, from heaven above,
Wholeness flowing from Your love,
In Your presence we are free,
One with You, eternally.
Where there’s strife, let mercy reign,
Where there’s sorrow, heal the pain,
Guide our hearts to unity,
In Your grace, we find our plea.
Let forgiveness gently rise,
As peace brings balm to troubled skies.
Holy Spirit, fill our hearts,
May Your peace heal every part,
Lead us to a deeper rest,
In Your arms, we are blessed.
Make us vessels of Your peace,
In Your love, may strife cease.
Outro
O Spirit of peace, we humbly pray,
Guide us, lead us, day by day,
In Your peace, our hearts made whole,
Forever bound to You, our soul.
