Bible Text: Romans 1:18–25
18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
Memory Verse:
Romans 1:21 “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.”
Rejecting a map while traveling guarantees confusion and misdirection. No matter how confident you feel, without guidance you will eventually get lost. Rejecting God, the ultimate source of wisdom, leads to confusion, poor decisions, and a life without clear direction. A foolish heart is not simply lack of intelligence; it is a condition that results from rejecting God’s truth. Romans 1:18–25 explains that people may know about God but choose not to honour Him. This deliberate rejection leads to darkened understanding and distorted thinking.
A foolish heart operates independently of God. It relies on human reasoning, personal opinions, and world standards instead of divine wisdom. Over time, this leads to wrong conclusions, misguided priorities, and decisions that produce negative consequences.
One major characteristic of a foolish heart is ingratitude. Romans 1:21 highlights that they were “not thankful.” Lack of gratitude disconnects the heart from God and opens the door to pride and self-reliance. Instead of acknowledging God as the source, the foolish heart attributes success to itself. Another danger is spiritual blindness is when the heart rejects the truth, it becomes darkened. What is right may seem wrong, and what is wrong may appear acceptable. This confusion affects every area of life; relationships, decisions, and spiritual growth.
The solution is to return to God as the source of wisdom. True wisdom begins with reverence for God and submission to His Word. When you seek God daily, acknowledges Him in all decisions, and values truth above personal opinion, clarity is restored.
A wise heart is cultivated intentionally. It grows through studying Scripture, prayer, and obedience. As the heart aligns with God, understanding increases and direction becomes clear. A foolish heart must therefore be corrected before it leads to greater confusion. When replaced with a wise and God-centered heart, life becomes purposeful, decisions become sound, and you begin to walk in clarity and truth.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 46: SS & S 585: JESUS CHRIST, GROW THOU IN ME
And all things else recede !
My heart be daily nearer Thee,
From sin be daily freed.Each day let Thy supporting might
My weakness still embrace;
My darkness vanish in Thy light,
Thy life my death efface.
In Thy bright beams which on me fall
Fade every evil thought ;
That I am nothing, Thou art all,
I would be daily taught.
More of Thy glory let me see,
Thou Holy, Wise, and True !
I would Thy living image be,
In joy and sorrow too.
Fill me with gladness from above,
Hold me by strength Divine :
Lord, let the glow of Thy great love
Through my whole being shine.
Make this poor self grow less and less,
Be Thou my life and aim ;
Oh, make me daily through Thy grace
More meet to bear Thy name !
