Bible Text: Proverbs 3:5–7
Trust in Yahweh with all your heart,
and don’t lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Don’t be wise in your own eyes.
Fear Yahweh, and depart from evil.
Memory Verse:
Proverbs 3:7 “Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.”
A traveler who refuses directions often becomes lost despite confidence in personal knowledge. Likewise, people who depend entirely on their own wisdom without seeking God eventually lose spiritual direction and understanding. Pride blinds the heart from recognizing the need for God’s guidance. Pride and self-reliance are dangerous causes of spiritual blindness. When people trust their own wisdom above God’s truth, they become resistant to correction, instruction, and spiritual insight. Pride causes people to depend on human understanding rather than seeking God’s direction and wisdom.
The Bible warns us not to lean on our own understanding. Human wisdom is limited and imperfect, but God’s wisdom is complete and eternal. A proud heart often believes it knows better than God, making it difficult to accept divine truth. Such attitudes gradually weaken spiritual sensitivity and create distance from God. Self-reliance can also lead people to ignore prayer, neglect God’s Word, and depend entirely on personal abilities or achievements. While hard work and wisdom are important, you must recognize that true direction and understanding come from God alone. Without God’s guidance, human decisions can easily lead into confusion and spiritual error.
Pride blinds individuals from recognizing personal weaknesses and need for repentance. It resists humility and rejects godly counsel. Many people remain spiritually stagnant because they refuse to surrender their hearts fully to God. A proud heart struggles to hear God clearly because self takes the place meant for God.
However, God gives grace to the humble. Humility opens the heart to spiritual understanding, correction, and growth. When you acknowledge your dependence on God, spiritual clarity increases. Through prayer, obedience, and submission to God’s Word, you gain wisdom and discernment. Jesus demonstrated perfect humility by completely submitting to the Father’s will. You are called to follow His example by trusting God above personal reasoning and ambitions. A humble heart remains teachable, sensitive, and spiritually alert. Surrender every form of pride and self-dependence before God. Ask Him to help you trust His wisdom completely. God directs and enlightens hearts that humbly rely on Him daily.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 131: Break the Chains, O Lord (Tune: Amazing Grace) By Apostle James Abache
From darkness into day;
Break every chain and set us free,
And guide us in Your way.
Refrain
Break the chains, O Lord, we pray,
And drive all fear away;
By Your blood we overcome,
And walk in endless day.
The sins of old, the voice of shame,
Are silenced by Your Word;
Through Jesus’ blood we overcome,
Our victory is secured.
New songs we sing, new paths we tread,
For Christ has won the fight;
The grave is torn, new life is born,
We walk as children bright.
Today’s Prayer
- Father, remove pride completely and teach me humble dependence upon Your wisdom.
- Lord, help me trust Your direction above personal understanding and reasoning.
- Father, deliver my family completely from pride, arrogance, self-reliance, and spiritual blindness.
