Signs of Spiritual Blindness: Dependence on Human Reasoning Alone

Signs of Spiritual Blindness: Dependence on Human Reasoning Alone

Bible Text: 1 Corinthians 1:25–27

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
For you see your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble;
but God chose the foolish things of the world that he might put to shame those who are wise. God chose the weak things of the world, that he might put to shame the things that are strong;

Memory Verse:

Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”

A calculator cannot solve problems correctly when wrong formulas are entered. The human reasoning alone becomes unreliable without God’s wisdom guiding the heart. Depending entirely on personal understanding often leads to confusion, pride, and spiritual error. Dependence on human reasoning alone is a significant sign of spiritual blindness. God created human intelligence for good purposes, but human wisdom becomes dangerous when it replaces dependence upon God. A spiritually blind person often trusts personal understanding above God’s truth and guidance.

The Bible teaches that God’s wisdom is higher and greater than human reasoning. Many spiritual truths cannot be fully understood through natural thinking alone because spiritual matters require divine revelation and discernment. When people rely entirely on logic, feelings, education, or personal opinions, they may reject truths that do not fit human understanding. Human reasoning without God often produces pride and self-confidence. People begin believing they can direct their own lives successfully without seeking God’s wisdom. Such attitudes weaken prayer life, reduce dependence upon Scripture, and create resistance toward spiritual instruction. Over time, spiritual sensitivity decreases and confusion increases.

Many individuals reject biblical principles because they appear unreasonable according to worldly standards. However, God’s truth remains eternal regardless of human opinions. Spiritual blindness causes people to value human philosophies more than divine revelation. This condition can lead to wrong decisions, deception, and separation from God’s will. We are encouraged to seek wisdom from God through prayer, Scripture study, humility, and obedience. The Holy Spirit provides understanding beyond human reasoning and helps you discern truth accurately. When you trust God completely, He directs your paths and grants spiritual clarity.

Jesus demonstrated complete dependence upon the Father throughout His earthly ministry. He consistently followed God’s will rather than human expectations. Follow His example by surrendering personal reasoning to God’s wisdom and truth.

Action Plans

  • Trust God completely instead of relying solely upon personal reasoning and understanding.
  • Seek divine wisdom through prayer, Scripture study, obedience, and spiritual fellowship.
  • Reject worldly philosophies contradicting biblical truth, righteousness, wisdom, and spiritual discernment.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 124: GRACE TO BREAK THE CHAINS

By Apostle James Abache

In the darkness, I have wandered,
Bound by chains I cannot see,
A heart once pure, now heavy-laden,
Longing for a way to be free.
But You, O Lord, are full of mercy,
With Your light, You set me free.
Grace to break the chains that bind me,
Come, deliver, set me free.

Refrain:
Grace to break the chains that bind,
Lift my soul and ease my mind.
In Your love, I find release,
Come, O Lord, and give me peace.

I’ve fallen deep, I’ve lost my way,
But Your forgiveness calls my name.
You cleanse my soul, You light my path,
And guide me from my deepest shame.
No more the chains of fear or sorrow,
You hold my hand through darkest days,
Your mercy rains like gentle rivers,
And leads me to Your holy ways.
Bridge:
Oh, Your mercy knows no measure,
In Your grace, I find my treasure.
With Your strength, I’ll rise above,
Held in the arms of perfect love.

Through every trial, I’ll endure,
For in Your light, I am secure.
The chains may come, but I will stand,
For You, O Lord, are in command.
You heal my heart and make me whole,
Restoring peace to my weary soul.

Outro:
Grace to break the chains of old,
In Your mercy, I am bold.
Lord, Your love, my heart will sing,
Forever free, forever clean.
