Bible Text: Jeremiah 1:4–5
Now Yahweh’s word came to me, saying,
“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.
Before you were born, I sanctified you.
I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Memory Verse:
Proverbs 19:21 “There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.”
A traveler without a destination wanders aimlessly and wastes valuable time and energy. Purpose blindness causes people to live without understanding God’s plan, direction, and assignment for their lives. Purpose blindness is a type of spiritual blindness where persons do not understand why they exist or what God is doing in their lives. They may live without clear direction, spiritual focus, or understanding of God’s divine purpose and calling. As a result, life often feels confusing, unfulfilled, and uncertain. The Bible reveals that God created every person intentionally and with purpose. Before Jeremiah was born, God already knew and appointed him for a divine assignment. God has plans and purposes for every believer. However, spiritual blindness can prevent people from recognizing or pursuing those purposes faithfully.
Purpose blindness often develops through distractions, sin, fear, unbelief, pride, worldly influences, or neglect of fellowship with God. When people focus only on temporary goals and personal ambitions, they may overlook God’s eternal plans for their lives. Without spiritual understanding, many pursue paths outside God’s direction and later experience frustration or emptiness. A person suffering from purpose blindness may constantly compare themselves with others, struggle with confusion about decisions, or lack passion and spiritual motivation. Such persons often move through life without recognizing opportunities God provides for growth and service.
You can overcome purpose blindness through prayer, studying Scripture, obedience, and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. God reveals His plans gradually to those who seek Him sincerely and remain willing to obey His instructions faithfully. Spiritual clarity increases as believers draw closer to God daily. Jesus lived with complete understanding of His divine mission and fulfilled God’s purpose faithfully. Believers today must also seek God earnestly for wisdom, direction, and revelation concerning their calling and assignment. When spiritual sight increases, you begin to understand God’s hand upon your life more clearly. Purpose brings direction, confidence, discipline, and deeper commitment to God’s will.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 28: SS&S 190: COME, HOLY SPIRIT, COME
Let Thy bright beams arise,
Dispel the darkness from our minds,
And open all our eyes.
Revive our drooping faith,
Our doubts and fears remove,
And kindle in our breasts the flame
Of never-dying love.
Convince us of our sin,
Then lead to Jesus’ blood,
And to our wondering view reveal
The secret love of God.
‘Tis Thine to cleanse the heart,
To sanctify the soul,
To pour fresh life in every part,
And new-create the whole.
Dwell therefore in our hearts,
Our minds from bondage free ;
Then we shall know, and praise, and love
The Father, Son, and Thee !
