Bible Text: Revelation 3:17–18
Because you say, ‘I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing;’ and don’t know that you are the wretched one, miserable, poor, blind, and naked;
I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, that you may become rich; and white garments, that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes, that you may see.
Memory Verse:
Ephesians 5:8 “For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light.”
A person using a distorted mirror believes the reflection is accurate until proper light exposes the reality clearly. Spiritual blindness deceives people into believing wrong perceptions, decisions, and beliefs are correct until God’s truth reveals reality properly. Spiritual blindness is not only about what a person cannot see; it also involves believing wrong perceptions are correct. This makes spiritual blindness extremely dangerous because people may walk confidently in deception while remaining unaware of their true spiritual condition. The church in Laodicea believed they were spiritually strong and self-sufficient, yet God revealed they were spiritually blind and lacking true understanding. This demonstrates how spiritual blindness can hide behind confidence, religion, success, or outward appearances. A person may think they are spiritually mature while actually drifting away from God’s truth.
One of the greatest dangers of spiritual blindness is deception without awareness. Spiritually blind people often fail to recognize wrong attitudes, sinful patterns, false teachings, or wrong directions because discernment has become weakened. Pride, complacency, self-reliance, and neglect of God’s Word contribute greatly to this condition. Spiritual blindness affects understanding, decisions, priorities, relationships, and eternal destiny. When spiritual sight is distorted, people may resist correction, ignore warnings, and continue following harmful paths confidently. Without divine insight, truth becomes difficult to recognize clearly.
However, when God opens spiritual eyes, everything changes completely. Understanding becomes clearer, direction becomes certain, and purpose becomes more meaningful. God’s light exposes deception and reveals truth, wisdom, and righteousness. Spiritual sight enables you to recognize God’s voice, walk in discernment, and pursue His will faithfully. Jesus Christ came to bring light into spiritual darkness and restore spiritual understanding. Through relationship with Him, you receive revelation, wisdom, and transformed perspectives. The Holy Spirit will also guide you into truth and deeper understanding. We must therefore remain humble, teachable, and dependent on God daily. Prayer, Scripture study, obedience, and sincere fellowship with God help maintain spiritual clarity and discernment.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 28: SS&S 190: COME, HOLY SPIRIT, COME
Let Thy bright beams arise,
Dispel the darkness from our minds,
And open all our eyes.
Revive our drooping faith,
Our doubts and fears remove,
And kindle in our breasts the flame
Of never-dying love.
Convince us of our sin,
Then lead to Jesus’ blood,
And to our wondering view reveal
The secret love of God.
‘Tis Thine to cleanse the heart,
To sanctify the soul,
To pour fresh life in every part,
And new-create the whole.
Dwell therefore in our hearts,
Our minds from bondage free ;
Then we shall know, and praise, and love
The Father, Son, and Thee !
