Bible Text: James 4:6–10
But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to gloom.
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.
Memory Verse:
Proverbs 28:13 “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.”
A dirty mirror cannot reflect images clearly until it is properly cleaned. Pride and unrepentant sin cloud spiritual understanding, but repentance and humility cleanse the heart and make spiritual truth clearer. Repentance and humility are powerful solutions to spiritual blindness. Spiritual blindness often develops through pride, sin, stubbornness, and self-dependence. However, when people humble themselves before God and sincerely repent, spiritual understanding begins to increase and divine truth becomes clearer. The Bible teaches that God gives grace to the humble but resists the proud. Pride blocks spiritual revelation because it causes people to depend upon personal wisdom rather than God’s truth. A proud heart resists correction, rejects instruction, and struggles to recognize spiritual errors. In contrast, humility opens the heart to God’s wisdom, guidance, and transformation.
Repentance is more than apologizing for wrongdoing. It involves sincere sorrow for sin and a deliberate decision to turn back to God. Genuine repentance removes spiritual barriers and restores fellowship with God. When you confess and forsake sinful attitudes, spiritual sensitivity increases again. Many people remain spiritually blind because they refuse correction and justify sinful behaviour. Pride prevents them from acknowledging mistakes or seeking God sincerely. Yet God lovingly promises mercy and restoration to those who humble themselves and return to Him wholeheartedly.
Humility also helps believers remain teachable and sensitive to the Holy Spirit. A humble believer seeks God’s direction continually and depends on His wisdom daily. Such persons grow spiritually because they willingly accept correction and pursue righteousness faithfully. Throughout the Scripture, God revealed Himself to humble people who sincerely sought Him. Jesus Himself demonstrated humility and complete obedience to the Father’s will. You are called to follow His example by living with repentant and surrendered hearts.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 29: SS&S 642: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD
What a glory he sheds on our way
While we do his good will, he abides with us still
And with all who will trust and obey
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies
But his smile quickly drives it away
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh nor a tear
Can abide while we trust and obey
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share
But our toil he doth richly repay
Not a grief nor a loss, not a frown or a cross
But is blest if we trust and obey
But we never can prove the delights of his love
Until all on the altar we lay
For the favor he shows, and the joy he bestows
Are for them who will trust and obey
Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at his feet
Or we will walk by his side in the way
What he says we will do, where he sends we will go
Never fear, only trust and obey
