Why Many Remain Blind

Why Many Remain Blind

Bible Text: Isaiah 6:9–10

He said, “Go, and tell this people,
‘You hear indeed,
but don’t understand;
and you see indeed,
but don’t perceive.’
Make the heart of this people fat.
Make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes;
lest they see with their eyes,
and hear with their ears,
and understand with their heart,
and turn again, and be healed.”

Memory Verse:

Jeremiah 5:21 “Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not.”

A radio may be surrounded by powerful signals, but if it is switched off, it cannot receive any transmission. God is still speaking and revealing truth, but a heart that is hardened, distracted, divided, or proud cannot receive spiritual light properly. Many people remain spiritually blind not because God is silent, but because the condition of their hearts prevents them from receiving His light. Throughout the Scripture, God consistently speaks through His Word, His Spirit, circumstances, and godly counsel. The problem is often not the absence of revelation but the inability or unwillingness to receive it.

One major cause is a hardened heart. When people repeatedly resist conviction and ignore God’s instructions, spiritual sensitivity decreases. Truth that should produce transformation is rejected, and blindness gradually deepens. Another cause is a distracted heart. Many people are so consumed by worldly concerns, ambitions, pleasures, and worries that they fail to pay attention to God’s voice. Their focus is divided among many things, leaving little room for spiritual perception.

A divided heart also contributes to spiritual blindness. A person cannot effectively follow God while holding onto conflicting loyalties and desires. Double mindedness creates confusion and instability, making it difficult to discern God’s will clearly.

The common thread among all these conditions is the heart. God’s light is still shining, but the heart determines whether that light is welcomed or resisted. Spiritual sight increases when the heart becomes humble, focused, surrendered, and responsive to God. The good news is that God specializes in changing hearts. Through repentance, humility, prayer, and obedience, spiritual blindness can be removed and understanding restored. When the heart is aligned with God, revelation flows more freely, discernment becomes sharper, and spiritual perception becomes clearer. God is still speaking today; the question is whether our hearts are positioned to hear, receive, and respond.

Action Plans

  • Examine your heart daily for distractions, and spiritual resistance.
  • Prioritize God’s voice above competing influences and worldly concerns.
  • Respond immediately whenever God reveals truth, correction, or direction.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 131: Break the Chains, O Lord (Tune: Amazing Grace) By Apostle James Abache

O Lord, we come, our hearts contrite,
From darkness into day;
Break every chain and set us free,
And guide us in Your way.

Refrain
Break the chains, O Lord, we pray,
And drive all fear away;
By Your blood we overcome,
And walk in endless day.
The sins of old, the voice of shame,
Are silenced by Your Word;
Through Jesus’ blood we overcome,
Our victory is secured.

New songs we sing, new paths we tread,
For Christ has won the fight;
The grave is torn, new life is born,
We walk as children bright.

Today’s Prayer

  • Father, remove every heart condition hindering spiritual sight and understanding.
  • Lord, help me recognize and respond quickly to Your voice.
  • Father, keep my family spiritually sensitive, humble, and fully receptive.
