Bible Text: Proverbs 9:8–10
Don’t reprove a scoffer, lest he hate you.
Reprove a wise man, and he will love you.
Instruct a wise man, and he will be still wiser.
Teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.
The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom.
The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Memory Verse:
James 4:10 “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.”
A student who believes he knows everything stops learning and eventually falls behind. A believer who becomes proud and unteachable gradually loses spiritual insight, while a humble person continues to grow in wisdom and understanding. One of the keys to maintaining spiritual sight is remaining humble and teachable. Spiritual blindness often begins when people stop learning, stop listening, and assume they already know enough. Humility keeps the heart open to God’s instruction, while pride closes the door to further revelation.
A teachable spirit recognizes that no matter how much knowledge or experience a person possesses, there is always more to learn from God. Humble believers understand their dependence upon the Lord and remain willing to receive correction, instruction, and guidance. They do not view correction as an attack but as an opportunity for growth and improvement. The Bible teaches that wise people increase in learning because they are willing to receive instruction. God reveals deeper truths to those who remain humble before Him. Spiritual growth is impossible without teachability because revelation requires a heart that is willing to listen and obey.
Pride is one of the greatest enemies of spiritual sight. It convinces people that they are already right and have no need for correction. This attitude leads to self-deception and prevents spiritual progress. A proud heart often rejects truth that challenges personal opinions, habits, or beliefs.
Humility, on the other hand, attracts God’s grace. The humble seek understanding before making conclusions. They listen carefully to God’s Word, value godly counsel, and remain sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Because of this attitude, their discernment becomes sharper and their spiritual vision clearer.
Remaining teachable also protects believers from deception. Those who are willing to learn are less likely to be misled because they continually measure their lives against God’s truth. They remain open to spiritual growth and transformation. Jesus demonstrated perfect humility throughout His earthly ministry. Though He possessed all wisdom, He submitted Himself to the Father’s will. we are called to follow His example by maintaining hearts that are humble, receptive, and eager to learn.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 131: Break the Chains, O Lord (Tune: Amazing Grace) By Apostle James Abache
From darkness into day;
Break every chain and set us free,
And guide us in Your way.
Refrain
Break the chains, O Lord, we pray,
And drive all fear away;
By Your blood we overcome,
And walk in endless day.
The sins of old, the voice of shame,
Are silenced by Your Word;
Through Jesus’ blood we overcome,
Our victory is secured.
New songs we sing, new paths we tread,
For Christ has won the fight;
The grave is torn, new life is born,
We walk as children bright.
Today’s Prayer
- Father, give me a humble heart that welcomes correction and truth.
- Lord, keep me teachable and growing in wisdom.
- Father, help my family remain humble and receptive to You.
