Bible Text: Numbers 13:25–33; Numbers 14:1–11
25 They returned from investigating the land after 40 days.
26 They came back to Moses and Aaron and to the whole community of the Israelites in the wilderness of Paran at Kadesh. They reported to the whole community and showed the fruit of the land.
27 They told Moses, “We went to the land where you sent us. It is indeed flowing with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.
28 But the inhabitants are strong, and the cities are fortified and very large. Moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there.
29 The Amalekites live in the land of the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites, and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan.”
30 Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses, saying, “Let us go up and occupy it, for we are well able to conquer it.”
31 But the men who had gone up with him said, “We are not able to go up against these people, because they are stronger than we are!”
32 Then they presented the Israelites with a discouraging report of the land they had investigated, saying, “The land that we passed through to investigate is a land that devours its inhabitants. All the people we saw there are of great stature.
33 We even saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak came from the Nephilim), and we seemed like grasshoppers both to ourselves and to them.”
1 Then all the community raised a loud cry, and the people wept that night.
2 And all the Israelites murmured against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, “If only we had died in the land of Egypt, or if only we had perished in this wilderness!
3 Why has the Lord brought us into this land only to be killed by the sword, that our wives and our children should become plunder? Wouldn’t it be better for us to return to Egypt?”
4 So they said to one another, “Let’s appoint a leader and return to Egypt.”
5 Then Moses and Aaron fell down with their faces to the ground before the whole assembled community of the Israelites.
6 And Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, two of those who had investigated the land, tore their garments.
7 They said to the whole community of the Israelites, “The land we passed through to investigate is an exceedingly good land.
8 If the Lord delights in us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us—a land that is flowing with milk and honey.
9 Only do not rebel against the Lord, and do not fear the people of the land, for they are bread for us. Their protection has turned aside from them, but the Lord is with us. Do not fear them!”
10 However, the whole community threatened to stone them. But the glory of the Lord appeared to all the Israelites at the tent of meeting.
11 The Lord said to Moses, “How long will this people despise me, and how long will they not believe in me, in spite of the signs that I have done among them?
Hebrews 11:6 “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
A man standing on the riverbank refuses to board a strong and reliable bridge because he fears it may collapse. Although the bridge is capable of carrying him safely across, his lack of trust keeps him stranded. The problem is not the strength of the bridge but the weakness of his belief. Unbelief prevents many people from experiencing God’s promises. God’s power is never insufficient; it is our refusal to trust Him that keeps us from crossing into the life He has prepared for us. Unbelief is one of the greatest barriers to experiencing God’s blessings and fulfilling His purpose. It questions God’s ability, doubts His promises, and magnifies circumstances above His power. Throughout the Scripture, unbelief repeatedly prevented people from entering into what God had already provided for them.
The twelve spies sent into Canaan vividly illustrate the devastating cost of unbelief. Although all twelve saw the same land flowing with milk and honey, ten returned with a negative report. They focused on the giants, fortified cities, and perceived impossibilities rather than on God’s promise. Only Joshua and Caleb believed that God was able to give them the land. The majority allowed fear to overpower faith, and their unbelief spread throughout the entire nation. The consequences were severe. An eleven-day journey became forty years of wandering. An entire generation died in the wilderness without entering the Promised Land. Their problem was not a lack of opportunity but a lack of faith. God had already promised victory, yet unbelief caused them to forfeit their inheritance.
Unbelief does not always appear as open rejection of God. Sometimes it is expressed through worry, fear, constant complaining, hesitation to obey, or dependence upon human reasoning instead of God’s Word. Whenever believers allow circumstances to become greater than God’s promises, unbelief quietly takes root in the heart.
The cost of unbelief includes delayed blessings, missed opportunities, spiritual stagnation, unanswered potential, and unnecessary discouragement. It robs believers of peace because they become controlled by what they see rather than by what God has spoken. Unbelief also hinders prayer, weakens courage, and limits spiritual growth. Faith, however, opens the door to God’s supernatural intervention. Joshua and Caleb entered the Promised Land because they trusted God’s faithfulness despite overwhelming obstacles. They understood that God’s promises are greater than life’s challenges. Faith does not deny difficulties; it declares that God is greater than every difficulty.
Today, choose faith over fear. Refuse to measure your future by your circumstances. Measure your circumstances by the greatness of your God. Every promise God has made remains true, and every challenge bows before His power. The cost of unbelief is too great, but the rewards of unwavering faith are beyond measure.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 130: BOUGHT WITH PRECIOUS BLOOD
Life is a field where souls are sold,
For silver, lust, or bread;
But I am bought with priceless blood,
By Christ who died and bled.
Bought with His blood, redeemed by love,
My destiny is sure;
No scheme of hell, no earthly lure,
Can buy what Christ secured.
Esau gave up his birthright true,
For food that fades away;
But Christ has fed my hungry soul,
With bread that will not stray.
Samson was trapped by love unwise,
His strength was swept aside;
But I find power in holy grace,
With Christ my guard and guide.
Judas was blinded by the gold,
And sold his Lord away;
But I will cling to Calv’ry’s cross,
Where grace forever stays.
Satan may tempt with fleeting things,
To buy my crown above;
But I am sealed by Jesus’ blood,
Secured by endless love.

2. Lord, help me trust You completely, regardless of what I see or feel around me.
