Bible Text: Romans 5:3-4
3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance;
4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope:
Memory Verse
Hebrews 10:36 “For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.”
A mountain climber does not reach the highest point by taking only easy steps. The journey requires endurance, determination, and the courage to continue when the path becomes steep. Every step forward brings the climber closer to the destination, even when progress seems slow. Perseverance is the spiritual strength to continue pursuing God’s purpose despite obstacles, delays, and challenges. It is the decision to remain faithful when circumstances test our commitment.
The price of perseverance is endurance, the willingness to keep trusting God when the journey becomes difficult. Many people begin with excitement, but perseverance determines who completes the assignment. A seed must endure the darkness of the soil before breaking forth into the light. In the same way, God often develops our character through seasons of waiting and difficulty. Biblical heroes such as Job, Joseph, Abraham, and David experienced trials, but they refused to abandon their faith. Their perseverance positioned them to experience God’s promises.
The price of perseverance is the refusal to give up when challenges arise. Life will present moments when progress seems slow and answers appear delayed, but God uses these seasons to strengthen faith and build endurance. Perseverance requires faith because we must believe that God is working even when we cannot see immediate results. It requires patience because some promises unfold according to God’s timing. It requires courage because opposition can test our commitment.
Job lost much but continued trusting God. Joseph endured betrayal and hardship before stepping into leadership. David waited through years of uncertainty before becoming king. Their stories teach us that difficult seasons do not cancel God’s promises. Perseverance does not mean that challenges are ignored; it means that challenges do not have the final word. A believer who perseveres learns to depend on God’s strength rather than personal ability.
Many destinies are lost not because people lack ability, but because they quit before their appointed season of breakthrough. Perseverance keeps us positioned for what God has prepared. God rewards those who remain faithful. The harvest belongs to those who continue planting, watering, and believing. Every prayer, every act of obedience, and every step of faith contributes to the fulfilment of God’s purpose.
When we pay the price of perseverance, we develop spiritual maturity and become examples of God’s faithfulness to others.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 51: SS & S 235: MY FAITH LOOKS UP TO THEE,
Stanza 1
My faith looks up to Thee,
Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Saviour divine ;
Now hear me while I pray ;
Take all my guilt away ;
Oh, let me from this day
Be wholly Thine.
Stanza 2
May Thy rich grace impart
Strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire :
As Thou hast died for me,
Oh, may my love to Thee
Pure, warm, and changeless be—–
A living fire.
Stanza 3
While life’s dark maze I tread,
And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my Guide :
Bid darkness turn to day,
Wipe sorrow’s tears away ;
Nor let me ever stray
From Thee aside.
Stanza 4
When ends life’s transient dream—-
When death’s cold, sullen stream
Shall o’er me roll—-
Blest Saviour, then in love,
Fear and distrust remove ;
Oh, bear me safe above—-
