THE COST OF COMFORT WITHOUT CONVICTION

THE COST OF COMFORT WITHOUT CONVICTION

Text: Ezekiel 3:18-19

18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die;  and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life;  the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity;  but his blood will I require at thine hand.   19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity;  but thou hast delivered thy soul.

THE COST OF COMFORT WITHOUT CONVICTION

 Memory Verse: Galatians 6:1 “Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently.”

A doctor who sees a patient with a serious infection. Instead of treating the infection or warning the patient, the doctor just tells them, “Don’t worry, you are fine.” The patient feels comforted for a moment, but the infection spreads and becomes worse. In the end, this “comfort” causes more harm than good.

This is what happens when spiritual leaders only give comforting messages without calling people to change. Many messages today avoid making people feel uncomfortable. They want everyone to feel good and happy. But some things are not okay, especially when people live far from God and refuse to change. Telling someone they are fine when their life is spiritually broken is not kindness. It is like hiding the truth and letting them walk into danger. True love means caring enough to tell the truth, even if it hurts for a moment.

The Bible teaches us to encourage others and give hope. That is very important. Love is the foundation of everything we do. But love also means helping people see the danger they are in and guiding them out of that danger. If we only comfort people without warning them about sin and its consequences, it is like giving painkillers to someone who needs surgery. The pain might stop, but the problem gets worse.

We must be brave and honest. We should preach messages that not only uplift but also challenge and convict. Sometimes, people need to feel uncomfortable, so that they can realize they need to repent and turn to God. Protecting people from temporary discomfort might save their feelings now, but it could cost their souls forever. Real compassion is about caring for people’s eternal lives, not just their feelings today. Let’s stop giving easy messages that only make people feel good for a moment. Instead, let’s share God’s truth fully, with love and courage, so that many can find true freedom and life.

Are you ready to speak the truth with love, even when it is hard? That is the cost of true comfort.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 1; SS&S 1167:” BE THE MATTER WHAT IT MAY, ALWAYS SPEAK THE TRUTH“

1. Be the matter what it may, always speak the truth;

Whether at your work or play, always speak the truth

Never from this rule depart, grave it

deeply on your heart,

Written ’tis upon your chart :

” Always speak the truth ! ”

2. There’s a charm in honesty, always

speak the truth ; speak the truth ;

There is meanness in a lie; always

He is but a coward slave, who, a present

pain to waive,

Stoops to falsehood; then, be brave;

Always speak the truth.

3. When you’re wrong, the folly own,

always speak the truth;

There’s a triumph to be won, always

speak the truth ;

He who speaks with lying tongue adds

to wrong a greater wrong;

Then, with courage true and strong,

Always speak the truth.
