THE DANGER OF A HARDENED OR DEAD SPIRIT

THE DANGER OF A HARDENED OR DEAD SPIRIT

Text: Hebrews 3:7–8

7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,

8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

THE DANGER OF A HARDENED OR DEAD SPIRIT

Memory Verse:        Verse: Ephesians 2:1 “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins.”

Your spirit is like a garden. When the soil is soft, seeds can grow, and life flourishes. But when the ground becomes hard and dry, nothing can grow. A hardened or dead spirit is like that dry, cracked ground, no life, no growth, and no connection to God.

The Bible warns us about this serious condition. It is not just a small problem; it is a spiritual emergency. In Hebrews 3:7-8, Apostle Paul said, “Do not harden your hearts.” A hardened spirit is one that refuses to listen to God. It becomes stubborn, closed off, and unwilling to change. This can happen when we ignore God’s voice, push away His truth, or choose sin over obedience.

A proud spirit, mentioned in Proverbs 16:18, lifts itself above God. It says, “I know better. I do not need help.” Pride builds walls between us and God. Just like weeds take over a garden, pride can choke our spiritual life.

The most serious condition is a dead spirit, described in Ephesians 2:1, a life completely disconnected from God. A dead spirit can not enjoy God’s love, hear His voice, or grow in faith. It is like a tree with no roots, ready to fall in the next storm. But here is the good news: God can bring dead spirits back to life. He is the master gardener. He can break up hard soil, pull out weeds of pride, and plant something new. In Ezekiel 36:26, God promised: “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you.” Even if your spirit feels cold, dry, or lifeless, God can restore it. He can soften your heart, humble your pride, and breathe life into what was dead.

All you have to do is turn back to Him. Say, “God, I need You. Soften my heart. Make me new.” He will never turn you away. His power is greater than any spiritual death. Check the condition of your spirit. Is it soft and alive, or is it hard and dry? Don’t wait for things to get worse. Let God work in your heart today, and let His Spirit bring your spirit back to life.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 100: “THE RESURRECTION AND LIFE IN THE SPIRIT” By Apostle James Abache

1. There is a life reserved for the poor body at last,

Though it lies in the dust, in death so vast.

The Spirit of God, who raised Christ from the dead,

Shall quicken our bodies, by His power led.

Refrain:

He that raised up Christ, shall raise us too,

From corruption to glory, in light anew.

By His Spirit that dwells, He shall make us whole,

Resurrected in body, renewed in soul.

2. Though our bodies lie broken, cast down with the dust,

God remembers His covenant, in Him we trust.

The body shall rise, clothed in glory divine,

Like Christ, our Savior, in beauty will shine.

3. O grave, where’s your victory, where’s your sting?

For Christ has triumphed, and life He will bring.

The Spirit of God now quickens our frame,

And we shall rise, forever His name!

4. The body of saints, though weary and torn,

Shall rise in strength, to be reborn.

In the temple of flesh, His Spirit resides,

Through Him we shall live, where glory abides.

Bridge:

So walk in the Spirit, not after the flesh,

For He will transform you, make you afresh.

Our bodies, though frail, shall be raised in His might,

And clothed in His glory, with joy and delight!

Outro:

Hallelujah! He lives, and we shall live too,

By His Spirit, we rise, forever made new.

He that raised up Christ, shall raise us to stand,

In glory eternal, at His right hand!
