THE SPIRIT OF A MAN AND LEADERSHIP: Integrity, Like a Compass

THE SPIRIT OF A MAN AND LEADERSHIP: Integrity, Like a Compass

Text: Proverbs 11:3

3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them:  but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.

 Psalm 78:72

72 So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart;  and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands.

THE SPIRIT OF A MAN AND LEADERSHIP: Integrity, Like a Compass

Memory Verse:        Proverbs 20:7 “The righteous lead blameless lives; blessed are their children after them.”

A third basic principle of what real, spirit-led leadership looks like is integrity like a compass. Integrity is the foundation of true leadership. It is like a compass, constant, reliable, and true. A compass does not change direction with the wind or follow popular opinion. No matter the weather, it always points north. In the same way, a man of integrity stays committed to doing what is right, no matter the situation around him.

A leader with integrity does not lie, cheat, or cut corners to get ahead. He is honest even when no one is watching. He makes decisions based on the truth and conviction, not pressure or what is easy. He is the same person in public and in private, consistent, trustworthy, and strong in character. In leadership, the spirit of a man is revealed not in times of peace, but in times of pressure. When things get tough, the true heart of a leader is exposed. Will he compromise? Will he give in to fear or greed? Or will he stand firm, guided by his inner compass?

David led Israel “with integrity of heart and skilful hands” Psalm 78:72. His leadership was not perfect, but his heart was committed to following God. When he failed, he repented deeply. That is another mark of integrity, owning up to your mistakes and turning back to what is right. The world needs leaders whose hearts are steady, men and women who are not swayed by public opinion, profit, or pride. We need leaders whose spirit is strong because it is anchored in the truth.

Just like a compass helps a traveller find the way, a leader’s integrity helps others walk the right path. Your life points somewhere. Let it always point to God, to truth, and to what is right, just like a compass point to the north.

Ask God to shape your heart into one of deep honesty and strong character. That is the spirit of a true leader.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 97: ” GUIDE US, LORD, IN SERVICE TRUE”  By Apostle James Abache

1. Guide us, Lord, in service true,
As we lead and follow You,
In Your wisdom, we shall grow,
And Your love, we’ll always show.
With our hands, we’ll serve Your grace,
And in our hearts, Your love embrace,
For the church, Your work we’ll do,
In the strength You give anew.

Refrain:
Guide us, Lord, in every plan,
As we seek to follow Your command,
In leadership, we humbly stand,
Empowered by Your holy hand.
With wisdom, love, and unity,
We’ll serve Your church in harmony,
Guide us, Lord, in service true,
And lead us ever close to You.

2. In the tasks we’re called to bear,
Let us always seek Your care,
To shepherd hearts with gentle grace,
And lead with truth in every place.
May our words be filled with light,
Bringing hope and strength to fight,
For the kingdom’s work is near,
And in You, we have no fear.

3. As stewards of the gifts You give,
In Your truth, we long to live,
With each decision, prayer, and deed,
Let us follow Your true lead.
For the church is not our own,
But a place where You are shown,
Through each leader, every heart,
In Your love, we take our part.

Today’s Prayer

  1. 1. Father, make me the same in private as I am in public, faithful, humble, and reliable.2. Let my actions align with my words, and let my example guide others toward You.

    3. Father, raise up leaders in this nation and in the Church who are marked by strong character.
