Text: Romans 8:14
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
THE HUMAN SPIRIT AND YOUR IDENTITY
Memory Verse: Proverbs 20:27 “The spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all his innermost parts.”
A shining and beautiful car with a powerful engine, and fancy features without fuel, cannot go anywhere. In the same way, a person can have a strong body, many talents, a great job, and deep feelings, but without a living spirit, they will not truly move forward in life.
The spirit is the deepest part of who you are. It is like the fuel that brings the whole person to life. When your spirit is awake and connected to God, you become who you were truly made to be. Just like a car needs fuel to drive its full journey, you need God’s Spirit in you to live with real purpose and direction.
Many people, especially men, struggle not because they are not smart or capable. They may be strong, skilled, or successful. But something inside feels lost or empty. Why? Because their spirit is asleep, weak, or even hurt. They are trying to live a life without fuel.
Your calling is what we are meant to do, and your strength to keep going come from the spirit. When the spirit is strong and alive, you can face challenges with hope and live with clear direction. But when the spirit is broken or ignored, life becomes confusing and tiring, even if everything on the outside looks fine.
The roots of a tree are hidden, but they are what feed and support the whole tree. If the roots are dead, the tree cannot grow. Our spirit is like those roots. It may not be seen, but it is where life really begins. If your spirit is connected to God, like a tree planted by water, you grow strong and steady.
Romans 8:14 says, “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” This means that when we let God’s Spirit guide our spirit, we discover who we truly are, children of God. That’s our real identity.
You are more than your job, your looks, or your emotions. The real you is your spirit, alive and walking with God. That is where your true self and purpose come from.
Covenant Gate Hymnals 40: SS & S 530: ” WITH MY SAVIOUR EVER NEAR TO GUIDE ME
1. With my Saviour ever near to guide me,
I am safe, whatever may betide me;
From the storm and tempest He will hide me
In the hollow of His hand !
Refrain:
In the hollow … of His hand I . . .
In the hollow … of His hand I . . .
I am safe whatever may betide me,
In the hollow of His hand !
2. In His arms of love He doth enfold me ;
Words of peace His voice divine hath told me ;
I am safe, for God Himself doth hold me
In the hollow of His hand !
3. He will guard my soul, and leave me never;
From His love no power on earth shall sever;
And I know He’ll keep me now and ever
In the hollow of His hand !
