Text: Philippians 4:6-7
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
STRENGTHENING YOUR SPIRIT THROUGH PRAYERS
Memory verse: Romans 12:12 “Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.”
Praying regularly is like exercising your physical body, but instead of building your muscles, you are building your spirit. Just like your body needs food, water, and movement to grow strong, your spirit needs prayer, God’s Word, and time with Him.
For example, if you are learning to play a musical instrument. At first, it looks hard. Your fingers might get tired, and you may hit the wrong notes. But the more you practice, the better you get. That is how prayer works. The more you pray, the more natural it becomes. You begin to feel closer to God, and your spirit becomes stronger.
Your spirit is like a plant. If you water it every day and give it sunlight, it will grow healthy and strong. But if you forget to care for it, it becomes weak and dry. Prayer is the water and light for your spirit. It keeps your heart full of peace, love, and strength.
When you pray, you are talking to God. You can thank Him, ask for help, say sorry, or just share what is in your heart. And God listens every time. Even when you do not have the right words, He understands. Prayer is not about fancy words; it is about being honest and open with God. In building a strong house, prayer is like a brick. The more you pray, the more bricks you add. Over time, you build a solid place where your spirit can rest and be safe, even when life is hard.
Sometimes you feel tired, afraid, and not sure of what to do. That is when prayers help the most. It gives your spirit the strength to keep going, just like water helps a runner stay strong during a long race. Do not worry about having the perfect prayer. Just start. Talk to God like a friend. Pray when you wake up, when you are walking, when you are happy, or when you are sad. Little by little, your spirit will grow stronger, and your relationship with God will grow deeper.
COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 23: SS&S 319: WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS
- What a friend we have in Jesus,
all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
everything to God in prayer!
what peace we often forfeit,
what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry
everything to God in prayer!
- Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
take it to the Lord in prayer!
- Are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge–
take it to the Lord in prayer!
Do your friends despise, forsake you?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he’ll take and shield you;
you will find a solace there.
