THE STRENGTH OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT TO RESIST TEMPTATION

Memory verse: Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

The human spirit is like a strong wall built around a beautiful garden. Just as a wall protects the garden from weeds, animals, or storms, your spirit protects you from temptation, those things that try to pull you away from what is right and good.

Temptation is a voice that whispers, “Just this once will not hurt,” or “No one will know.” It might look fun or easy at first, like shiny chocolate. But just like too much chocolate can make you sick, giving in to temptation can hurt you in the long run. That’s where the strength of your spirit comes in. It helps you say “no” even when saying “yes” seems easier.

Think of a tree with deep roots. When strong winds blow, the tree stays standing because its roots hold it firmly in place. A person with a strong spirit is like that tree. When confronted with troubles or bad choices they do not fall over or give in, they stay firm because their spirit is strong. Building a strong spirit takes time and effort, just like building muscles. You do this by making good choices, being honest, helping others, and learning from your mistakes. Each time you do the right thing, even when it is hard, your spirit becomes stronger.

Your favourite superhero does not just have power, they have courage, self-control, and a heart that wants to do good. That is what makes them truly strong. In real life, we all have the power to be like that. Your spirit is our inner superhero. It helps you stand up for what is right and stay away from what is wrong.

Even when no one is watching, the strength of the human spirit can guide you. It reminds you of who you want to be and what really matters. So, the next time you feel tempted to do something you know is not right, think of the wall, the tree, or the superhero. Take a deep breath and listen to your strong spirit. It is always there to help you choose the better path.

In Acts 2, Peter preached a powerful message after the Holy Spirit came. He did not try to sound soft or polite. He spoke the truth boldly, and the people were “cut to the heart.” That pain, the deep conviction they felt, led them to ask, “What must we do to be saved?” Because they felt the sting of truth, they opened their hearts to healing. Thousands were saved that day.

Conviction may be like pain, but it is a good pain. It does not come to shame you, but it comes to wake you up, to turn your heart back to God. Just like a doctor press on a sore spot to find the source of an illness, the Holy Spirit presses on areas of our lives that need healing.

Do not have to silence conviction. Do not numb it with distractions, false comforts, or easy messages. Lean on it. Let it drive you to prayer, to change, and to Jesus. That pain is not your enemy, it is a gift that leads to healing, freedom, and deeper spiritual strength.

Pain that brings you closer to God is better than peace that keeps you far from Him.

COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 75: THE HOLY SPIRIT AND SPIRITUAL WISDOM By Apostle James Abache

  1. O Spirit of God, so pure and true,

We seek Your wisdom, to guide us through,

In every moment, in every way,

Teach us to walk, to watch, and pray.

Refrain:

Come, Holy Spirit, enlighten our hearts,

With wisdom divine, Your truth impart,

Guide us in knowledge, in all that we do,

To live for Christ, and make all things new.

  1. You search the depths of God’s holy mind,

Reveal His will to hearts so blind,

With understanding, You lead us along,

In Your sweet presence, we are made strong.

  1. Grant us the wisdom to love and forgive,

To walk in Your ways, to humbly live,

The Spirit of truth, the Spirit of grace,

Transform our hearts and seek God’s face.

  1. O Spirit, our Teacher, our Guide, our Friend,

In Your wisdom, we find no end,

Empower our lives with love and light,

To walk in the path of eternal sight.
