Text: 2 Corinthians 4:1-7
1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.
6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
THE LIGHT OF GOD’S GLORY
Memory Verse: John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
The glory of God is one of the deepest mysteries of the Scripture. The word “glory” carries the weight of God’s majesty, holiness, and beauty revealed to humanity. In Hebrew, Kabod means “weight” or “splendor,” while in Greek, Doxa refers to “brightness, radiance, and honour.” Together, they point to the overwhelming manifestation of God’s divine presence.
Light, on the other hand, is one of the greatest biblical symbols of God. From Genesis, where God commanded light to shine out of darkness, to Revelation where the Lamb Himself is the light of heaven, light reveals God’s nature. It represents truth, purity, holiness, guidance, and life. Darkness cannot overcome it, for light always prevails.
When we speak of “The Light of God’s Glory,” we are talking about the revelation of God’s presence shining through Jesus Christ. In Him, the invisible God becomes visible. Through Him, the lost are saved, the blind see, and the broken are restored. Paul explains that the God who once lit up the physical universe with His voice now illuminates our spiritual hearts with His glory through Christ 2 Corinthians 4:6.
For the unbeliever, the light of God’s glory seems hidden because “the god of this world has blinded their minds” 2 Corinthians 4:4. But for those who believe, the veil is lifted, and we behold the glory of the Lord. This glory does not leave us unchanged, it transforms us “from glory to glory” 2 Corinthians 3:18.
The call to believers is to not only walk in this light but also to reflect it. Jesus said in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world”. As we receive the light of God’s glory, we become carriers of His presence, shining into dark places and leading others to the truth.
COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 18; SS & S 1. PRAISE, MY SOUL, THE KING OF HEAVEN.
- Praise, my soul, the King of heaven.
To His feet thy tribute bring.
Ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
Who like thee His praise shall sing?
Praise Him! Praise Him!
Praise the everlasting King!
- Praise Him for His grace and favour
To our fathers in distress.
Praise Him still the same as ever,
Slow to chide, and swift to bless:
Praise Him! Praise Him!
Glorious in His faithfulness!
- Farther-like He tends and spares us,
Well, our feeble frame He knows.
In His hands he gently bears us,
Rescues us from all our foes.
Praise Him! Praise Him!
Widely as His mercy flows.
- Angels, help us to adore him,
Ye behold him face to face!
Sun and moon bow down before him!
Dwellers all in time and space,
Praise Him! Praise Him!
Praise with us the God of grace!
