THE POWER OF GOD’S LIGHT reveals truth

Text: 2 Corinthians 4:1-7

1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;

2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:

4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.

6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.

THE POWER OF GOD’S LIGHT reveals truth

Memory Verse: John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

The light of God is not merely illumination; it is revelation. When the Scripture speaks of light, it often points to God’s truth that penetrates darkness, exposes lies, and reveals the path of salvation through Christ. Darkness represents ignorance, deception, and sin. But when the light of God shines, confusion is replaced with clarity, falsehood is destroyed by truth, and the way to eternal life is made visible.

Jesus declared Himself as “the way, the truth, and the life.” This means that the truth is not an abstract idea but a person, Jesus Christ. The light of God reveals that only in Christ is the fullness of truth found. No philosophy, religion, or human wisdom can substitute for Him. When a person is walking in lies and deception, they are walking in darkness. But when Christ enters, He unveils reality, exposes sin, and reveals the Father’s love.

The power of God’s light also works in believers’ daily lives. It convicts us of sin, corrects wrong motives, and shows us God’s standard. This light acts like a spiritual compass, guiding us into holiness, righteousness, and victory. Without it, people stumble, confused and deceived. But with it, the believer walks confidently, free from lies.

The devil thrives on deception; he is the “father of lies” according to John 8:44. But God’s light strips him of power. As we walk in the light, we reject falsehood, uncover hidden works of darkness, and embrace the truth that sets us free John 8:32.

Therefore, we must not only receive the light but also reflect it. As Christ’s disciples, we carry His truth to a world covered in lies. The power of His light in us shines through our words, actions, and testimony, pointing others to the true way, Jesus Christ.

COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 27: SS&S 173 THERE’S A LIGHT THAT IS SHINING IN DARKNESS

  1. There’s a light that is shining in darkness,

While we wait for the dawning of day;

And it cheers us along on our journey,

Till the shadows shall vanish away !

  1. So we’ll wait and watch for the dawning,

The day of eternity blest;

Then take the wings of the morning,

And fly away to our rest.

  1. From the sure word the prophets

have spoken, [the gloom;

There is light flashing forth through

For the Scripture can never be broken,

And the King in His glory will come.

  1. Now we sing ‘mid the darkness and shadows, ;

And we pray and we watch for the dawn

Till the Day-star, in glory arising,

Shall betoken the coming of morn.

His Second Coming

  1. We are not of the night nor of darkness,

Let us walk, then, as children of day;

Our weeping shall be for a moment,

And our joy shall ne’er vanish away !
