Bible Text: Isaiah 57:15
For thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity,
whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit,
to revive the spirit of the humble,
and to revive the heart of the contrite.
Memory Verse:
Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
Cracked soil absorbs rain quickly and allows life to spring up again. A broken and contrite heart receives God’s presence deeply, allowing spiritual dryness to be replaced with revelation, healing, and renewed understanding. A broken and contrite heart opens spiritual eyes fully because humility invites divine presence and revelation. When a person becomes truly humble before God, pride is removed, resistance is broken, and the heart becomes sensitive to His voice and truth. God dwells with those who are of a humble and contrite spirit. This means that spiritual awakening is closely connected to humility and brokenness before God. When you come before Him with sincerity, repentance, and openness, He revives your heart and restores spiritual understanding.
One major result of a broken heart is restoration. God heals wounded, hardened, or spiritually dull hearts and brings them back into fellowship with Him. Restoration includes renewed passion for God, renewed obedience, and renewed spiritual sensitivity. Another result is clarity. A contrite heart is not clouded by pride, self-reliance, or stubbornness. Instead, it becomes open to God’s truth, making spiritual understanding clearer and more accurate. Confusion begins to disappear as God’s light shines into surrendered hearts. A broken and contrite heart also leads to spiritual awakening. This is a deeper awareness of God’s presence, His truth, and His will. Spiritual awakening brings renewed hunger for God, stronger conviction toward righteousness, and deeper desire for holiness and obedience.
Brokenness is not weakness; it is spiritual surrender. It is the heart’s willingness to depend fully on God rather than self. Through repentance, humility, prayer, and submission to God’s Word, you experience transformation that restores spiritual sight. The Holy Spirit works powerfully in surrendered hearts, revealing truth, exposing sin, and guiding you into deeper understanding. Pride blocks revelation, but humility opens the door to divine insight and spiritual growth.
Jesus Himself demonstrated perfect humility and submission to the Father’s will. Through His example, we are called to live surrendered lives that remain sensitive to God.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 26: SS&S 1149: GENTLE JESUS, MEEK AND MILD,
Look upon a little child ;
Pity my simplicity,
Suffer me to come to Thee.
Fain I would to Thee be brought;
Blessed Lord, forbid it not ;
In the Kingdom of Thy grace
Give a little child a place.
Lamb of God, I look to Thee ;
Thou shalt my example be ;
Thou art gentle, meek, and mild ;
Thou wast once a little child.
Fain I would be as Thou art ;
Give me Thy obedient heart ;
Thou art pitiful and kind,
Let me have Thy loving mind.
Loving Jesus, gentle Lamb,
In Thy gracious hands I am ;
Make me, Saviour, what Thou art,
Live Thyself within my heart.
