A Compassionate Heart

A Compassionate Heart

A Compassionate Heart

Text: Ephesians 4:31–32

31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you

Memory Verse: Colossians 3:12 “Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering.”

A tree does not eat its own fruit; it produces fruit for others to benefit from. A compassionate heart does not live only for itself but seeks to bless and uplift others. Compassion is the fruit of a heart transformed by God.

God desires His people to develop hearts that reflect His character. One of the most visible attributes of God is His compassion. Throughout the Scripture, God repeatedly shows mercy to those who are weak, hurting, or in need. When you grow in relationship with Him, His compassion begins to shape your attitudes and actions.

in Colossians 3:12 Apostle Paul instructs us to “put on” compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. These qualities are not merely emotions; they are deliberate attitudes that guide how we treat others. A compassionate heart recognizes the struggles of others and responds with mercy rather than judgment.

Compassion softens the heart and strengthens relationships. Instead of responding with anger or indifference, a compassionate person seeks to understand, forgive, and help. Such a heart reflects the love of Christ in practical ways.

When you develop a compassionate heart, you become channels of God’s love in the world. Your actions encourage the discouraged, comfort the hurting, and bring hope to those who feel forgotten.

A compassionate heart therefore becomes a powerful witness of God’s grace. As you grow in compassion, you begin to see others through God’s eyes and respond with kindness and mercy.

Action Plans

  • Practice kindness intentionally by helping someone in need each day.
  • Replace judgment with understanding when dealing with others’ weaknesses.
  • Pray regularly for God to soften your heart toward those who are hurting.

  1. Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
    There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
    Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not,
    As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.Refrain:
    Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
    Morning by morning new mercies I see;
    All I have needed Thy hand hath provided
    Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
  2. Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
    Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above,
    Join with all nature in manifold witness
    To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.
  3. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
    Thy own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
    Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
    Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
