A Courageous Heart

Text: Joshua 1:7–9

7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.
8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Memory Verse: Psalm 27:14 “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.”

A strong anchor keeps a ship steady during a storm. Though the waves may be fierce and the winds violent, the anchor prevents the ship from drifting away. Faith in God becomes the anchor of the heart. When the heart is anchored in God, it remains courageous even when circumstances become difficult.

A courageous heart is not the absence of fear but the presence of faith in the midst of fear. Life often brings situations that test our confidence, uncertainty, opposition, hardship, and unexpected challenges. In those moments, courage is required to stand firm and trust God.

Psalm 27:14 is encouraging you to wait on the Lord and remain courageous because God strengthens the heart. Courage does not come from human strength alone; it comes from confidence in God’s presence and promises. When you trust that God is in control, fear loses its power.

Throughout the Scripture, courage is closely connected with faith. When the heart believes that God is faithful, it finds the strength to move forward even when the path is uncertain. Waiting on the Lord means trusting His timing, depending on His power, and believing that He will act on behalf of His people.

A courageous heart refuses to be overwhelmed by circumstances. Instead, it focuses on God’s character, His faithfulness, His power, and His promises. This confidence produces stability and boldness in difficult situations.

God strengthens the heart that trusts Him. When you rely on His presence, your courage grows, and you are able to face life’s challenges with confidence.

Action Plans

  • Strengthen your faith by regularly meditating on God’s promises in Scripture.
  • Choose faith over fear by trusting God in challenging situations.
  • Wait patiently for God’s guidance rather than reacting out of anxiety.

COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 131 Break the Chains, O Lord (Tune: Amazing Grace) By Apostle James Abache

O Lord, we come, our hearts contrite,
From darkness into day;
Break every chain and set us free,
And guide us in Your way.
Refrain
Break the chains, O Lord, we pray,
And drive all fear away;
By Your blood we overcome,
And walk in endless day.
The sins of old, the voice of shame,
Are silenced by Your Word;
Through Jesus’ blood we overcome,
Our victory is secured.
New songs we sing, new paths we tread,
For Christ has won the fight;
The grave is torn, new life is born,
We walk as children bright.
