Bible Text: Isaiah 66:1–2
Yahweh says,
“Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.
What kind of house will you build to me?
Where will I rest?
For my hand has made all these things,
and so all these things came to be,” says Yahweh:
“but to this man will I look,
even to he who is poor and of a contrite spirit,
and who trembles at my word.
Memory Verse:
Psalm 51:17 “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”
Soft soil absorbs water quickly and allows healthy growth to flourish easily. A tender heart receives God’s truth readily, responds quickly to correction, and grows spiritually through continual obedience and sensitivity toward God. A tender heart receives spiritual light easily because it remains humble, responsive, and sensitive to God’s voice. Unlike hardened hearts that resist conviction and correction, a tender heart responds quickly whenever God speaks, instructs, or reveals truth. The Bible shows that God pays special attention to people possessing humble and contrite hearts. Such persons tremble at His Word and sincerely desire to obey Him. A tender heart values God’s presence, welcomes correction, and remains teachable.
One major result of a tender heart is spiritual growth. Because tenderhearted believers respond quickly to conviction and instruction, they mature spiritually more consistently. They do not remain stagnant or resistant when God reveals areas requiring change. Instead, they willingly submit themselves to transformation through the Holy Spirit. Another important result is increased understanding. A tender heart remains open to divine revelation and spiritual wisdom. God reveals deeper truths to believers who maintain humility, sincerity, and obedience. Spiritual discernment becomes stronger because the heart remains spiritually sensitive and receptive. A tender heart also produces spiritual alignment. Thoughts, attitudes, decisions, and priorities gradually align with God’s will because the believer constantly responds to divine guidance. Such persons become more sensitive to God’s direction and more willing to follow His instructions faithfully.
Tenderness of heart develops through prayer, repentance, humility, worship, and consistent fellowship with God. Believers who spend time in God’s presence regularly become more spiritually sensitive and responsive to conviction. The Holy Spirit softens hearts and helps believers maintain sincerity before God. However, sin, pride, bitterness, distractions, and repeated disobedience can gradually harden the heart and weaken spiritual sensitivity. We must therefore guard our hearts carefully and respond promptly whenever God speaks or convicts us. Jesus perfectly demonstrated tenderness toward the Father’s will through complete humility and obedience continually. We are called to follow His example by remaining surrendered and spiritually responsive daily.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 26: SS&S 1149: GENTLE JESUS, MEEK AND MILD,
Look upon a little child ;
Pity my simplicity,
Suffer me to come to Thee.
Fain I would to Thee be brought;
Blessed Lord, forbid it not ;
In the Kingdom of Thy grace
Give a little child a place.
Lamb of God, I look to Thee ;
Thou shalt my example be ;
Thou art gentle, meek, and mild ;
Thou wast once a little child.
Fain I would be as Thou art ;
Give me Thy obedient heart ;
Thou art pitiful and kind,
Let me have Thy loving mind.
Loving Jesus, gentle Lamb,
In Thy gracious hands I am ;
Make me, Saviour, what Thou art,
Live Thyself within my heart.
