A Trusting Heart

Text: Proverbs 3:5–6

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

Memory Verse: Psalm 28:7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.

A child walking with a loving father through a dark path does not panic about the darkness. The child feels secure because he trusts the one holding his hand. Life often presents uncertainties and situations we cannot fully understand, but a trusting heart finds stability by relying on God.

A trusting heart rests in God’s wisdom rather than human reasoning. Human understanding is limited and often shaped by emotions, fears, or incomplete information. But God sees the beginning and the end of every situation. Trust means placing confidence in His knowledge, His timing, and His guidance even when circumstances seem unclear.

Proverbs 3:5–6 is calling you to trust God with all your heart. This means surrendering control and resisting the temptation to rely solely on personal understanding. Trusting God does not remove challenges, but it anchors the heart during uncertainty.

When you acknowledge God in all their ways, through prayer, obedience, and dependence on His Word, He promises to direct your paths. Divine direction comes to those who rely on Him rather than their own wisdom.

A trusting heart produces peace and stability. Instead of being overwhelmed by worry, it rests in the assurance that God is guiding every step. Trust allows you to move forward confidently, knowing that God’s plans are wise and good.

Trust in God therefore becomes the foundation for steady faith and confident living.

Action Plans

  • Bring every decision and concern to God in prayer before acting.
  • Replace worry with faith by remembering God’s past faithfulness.
  • Follow God’s guidance in the Scripture even when it challenges your understanding.

COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 29: SS&S 642:: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD

When we walk with the Lord in the light of his Word
What a glory he sheds on our way
While we do his good will, he abides with us still
And with all who will trust and obey

Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey

Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies
But his smile quickly drives it away
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh nor a tear
Can abide while we trust and obey

Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share
But our toil he doth richly repay
Not a grief nor a loss, not a frown or a cross
But is blest if we trust and obey

But we never can prove the delights of his love
Until all on the altar we lay
For the favor he shows, and the joy he bestows
Are for them who will trust and obey

Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at his feet
Or we will walk by his side in the way
What he says we will do, where he sends we will go
Never fear, only trust and obey

  1. Father, teach my heart to trust You completely in every situation.
  2. Lord, help me rely on Your wisdom rather than my limited understanding.
  3. Father, strengthen the hearts of my family and community so they may trust You fully in every circumstance.
