Bible Text: Mark 7:21–23
21 For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, 22 adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.
23 All these evils come from inside and defile a person.”
Memory Verse:
Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
A poisoned well may look clean on the surface, but anyone who drinks from it becomes sick. The danger is not in its appearance, but in what is hidden within. A wicked heart may appear normal outwardly, but internally it is corrupted, influencing thoughts, decisions, and actions in destructive ways. A wicked heart is a heart that is corrupted by sin, deceit, and rebellion against God. Jeremiah 17:9 reveals the seriousness of this condition, it is not only sinful but also deceptive. This means the heart can mislead a person into believing that what is wrong is right.
A wicked heart resists God’s truth. It rejects correction, justifies wrongdoing, and follows its own desires rather than God’s will. Instead of being guided by truth, it is driven by selfishness, pride, and ungodly passions. One of the most dangerous aspects of a wicked heart is its ability to deceive. Someone may think he is right while walking in error. This self-deception leads to wrong decisions, broken relationships, and spiritual separation from God.
A wicked heart also produces harmful outcomes. Jesus taught that what comes out of a person originates from the heart. Therefore, actions such as dishonesty, hatred, envy, and immorality are expressions of an inner condition. Until the heart changes, behavior cannot truly change.
However, the condition of a wicked heart is not hopeless. God provides a solution. Through repentance, surrender, and faith, He offers transformation. He does not merely adjust behavior, He renews the heart completely. As promised in Ezekiel 36:26, God gives a new heart, replacing the old, corrupted nature with one that is responsive to Him.
Transformation begins when you acknowledge the true condition of your heart and turns to God sincerely. A humble and repentant heart invites God’s cleansing and restoration. A wicked heart therefore represents the fallen state of humanity, but it also highlights the necessity of salvation and divine transformation.
Action Plans
- Honestly, examine your heart and acknowledge any areas of sin or rebellion.
- Repent sincerely and invite God to cleanse and transform your heart.
- Guard your heart daily by aligning your thoughts and actions with God’s Word.
Covenant Gate Hymnals 79: “THE WELLS OF HIS PROVISION”
His father’s legacy,
The waters flowed, a gift of life,
From God’s abundance free.
The enemy, with wicked hand,
Tried to block the flow,
But Isaac knew that God would bring
His blessings here below.
Refrain:
What a sure and steadfast hope,
God’s provision will not cease,
From His riches in glory,
He will grant us perfect peace.
We will dig and find the flow,
Of living waters pure and bright,
God’s promises are faithful,
And He will lead us to the light.
The wells were filled with earth and stone,
The enemy’s cruel strife,
But Isaac’s trust in God alone,
Brought forth the spring of life.
Through trials fierce and opposition,
His faith would not depart,
For God, who promised to provide,
Would never break His heart.
Though famine came and all seemed lost,
The wells would still remain,
For God’s eternal faithfulness,
Will ever break the chain.
The wells of life, they are restored,
To those who seek His face,
For God, who is our faithful guide,
Will always make a way.
Outro:
Praise the Lord for wells that flow,
With living water free,
For in His grace, we shall abide,
And His provision see.
