Text: Proverbs 27:5-6
5 Open rebuke is better than secret love.
6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
BE A HEALER, NOT JUST A COMFORTER
Memory Verse: 2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage with great patience and careful instruction.”
A nurse who only gives out candy or chocolate to sick patients to put a smile on their faces instead of giving them medicine that does not cure the sickness. In fact, it hides the problem while the disease gets worse.
In the same way, many people today offer only comfort to those who are hurting, struggling, or living in sin. They give kind words, warm hugs, and encouragement, but avoid the truth that brings real healing. Psalm 107:20 says, “He sent His word, and healed them.” That healing does not come from avoiding the truth. It comes from speaking it with love.
We must be bold and caring at the same time:
- Ministers should preach all of God’s Word, not just the easy parts.
- Parents must lovingly correct wrong behaviour in their children.
- Leaders need to stand firm when their team is compromising.
- All believers are called to speak up when they see others going down the wrong path.
The goal is not to make people feel bad. The goal is to help them grow. It is not about making them ashamed; it is about showing them the way to salvation. If you realize that you have been using “spiritual painkillers” messages or habits that make you feel better but do not change your life, it is time to stop. God does not want to just comfort you in your weakness. He wants to heal you from it.
Let the pain you feel remind you that something deeper needs attention. Let the Holy Spirit convict your heart, that is how change begins. Let God’s truth cut away the sin or lies that hold you back, just like a surgeon cut to remove disease. It may hurt at first, but it is for your healing. Do not settle for being someone who just numbs or soothes others with kind words. Be someone who brings healing. That is what the world truly needs.
Covenant Gate Hymnals 1; SS&S 1167: ” BE THE MATTER WHAT IT MAY, ALWAYS SPEAK THE TRUTH“
- 1. Be the matter what it may, always speak the truth;
Whether at your work or play, always speak the truth
Never from this rule depart, grave it
deeply on your heart,
Written ’tis upon your chart :
” Always speak the truth ! ”
2. There’s a charm in honesty, always
speak the truth ; [speak the truth ;
There is meanness in a lie; always
He is but a coward slave, who, a present
pain to waive,
Stoops to falsehood; then, be brave;
Always speak the truth.
3. When you’re wrong, the folly own,
always speak the truth;
There’s a triumph to be won, always
speak the truth ;
He who speaks with lying tongue adds
to wrong a greater wrong;
Then, with courage true and strong,
Always speak the truth.
