Text: 2 Corinthians 10:4–5
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
BREAKING STRONGHOLDS: TRUTH AS A DEMOLITION TOOL
Memory Verse Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
A patient with a dangerous tumour deep inside their body feeling pain but try to ignore it. Take painkillers to ease the discomfort, but the root problem remains untouched. One day, a skilled surgeon examines him and says, “This is not just pain, it is a sign of something serious. You need surgery to remove what is killing you inside.”
In the same way, spiritual strongholds, like pride, fear, bitterness, or rebellion are not surface issues. They are like the inner tumours in the soul. And just like a tumour can not be removed with a bandage, these strongholds can not be fixed with nice words or motivational talks. They require spiritual surgery, and truth is the tool.
2 Corinthians 10:4–5 Apostle Paul wrote that our weapons are not human. They are mighty through God to pull down strongholds. That means God’s truth does not just comfort, it confronts. It goes deep. It breaks down wrong thinking, sin patterns, and lies we have believed in for years.
John the Baptist did not come with shallow encouragement. He came with bold, Spirit-filled truth. His words challenged religious pride, cut through self-righteousness, and exposed hypocrisy. He did not decorate the truth, he delivered it, and strongholds came crashing down.
Today, many avoid preaching that hurts before it heals. But if a doctor never told patients the truth about their condition, he is not a loving Doctor but dangerous. In the same way, when we soften the gospel or avoid convicting truth, we leave people spiritually sick. The good news is that when strongholds break, freedom comes. When the truth cuts deep, healing begins. When lies are torn down, Christ can build new life in us. Let us not fear the demolition process. Let the truth of God, spoken in love and power, do what it was sent to do: break, cleanse, and rebuild. Just as a surgeon works to save a life, so the truth works to save the soul.
COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 76: SPIRIT OF GIFTS, EMPOWER US By Apostle James Abache
- O Spirit of God, come fill our hearts,
With gifts divine, as each one imparts,
From wisdom’s light to healing grace,
Empower Your Church to seek Your face.
Refrain:
Spirit of gifts, we call on You,
Endow us, Lord, our hearts renew,
To serve with love, in truth and might,
For Your glory, shine ever bright.
- Through prophecy, through tongues we speak,
In faith and healing, strong and meek,
With wisdom’s touch, with mercy’s hand,
We live to fulfil God’s perfect plan.
- With every gift, Your Spirit gives,
We build Your Church, that all may live,
In unity, in love so pure,
Your gifts of grace forever endure.
- In every heart, Your gifts arise,
To spread the truth, to open eyes,
With hands of service, hearts of care,
We live for Christ, His love to share.
