Bible Text: Colossians 3:1–3
3 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.
Memory Verse:
2 Corinthians 4:18 “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
A traveler focused only on temporary comfort may forget the final destination entirely. Spiritual blindness causes people to focus mainly on earthly pleasures and temporary achievements while neglecting eternal priorities and God’s kingdom. Loss of eternal perspective is a dangerous consequence of spiritual blindness. God desire that you live with constant awareness of eternity and His kingdom purposes. However, when spiritual blindness affects the heart, people become overly focused on temporary things while neglecting eternal realities. The Bible taught us to set our affection on things above rather than earthly things. A spiritually blind person often becomes consumed by material possessions, worldly success, personal comfort, and temporary pleasures. While these things may appear important, they cannot provide lasting fulfillment or eternal reward.
When eternal perspective is lost, spiritual priorities become weakened. Prayer, worship, holiness, soul-winning, and obedience to God gradually lose importance. People may spend most of their energy pursuing temporary achievements while ignoring spiritual growth and preparation for eternity. Spiritual blindness also causes people to make decisions based only on present circumstances rather than eternal consequences. Sin becomes easier to justify when eternity is forgotten. You may neglect your relationship with God because worldly distractions dominate your attention and desires. Jesus consistently taught about eternity and encouraged you to store treasures in heaven rather than on earth. He reminded His followers that earthly things are temporary, but spiritual realities are everlasting. You must therefore live with wisdom and eternal focus consistently.
However, God desires to restore spiritual vision and eternal awareness. Through prayer, Scripture study, worship, and fellowship with the Holy Spirit, you develop deeper understanding of eternal values and priorities. Spiritual light helps you remain focused on God’s kingdom despite worldly distractions. With eternal perspective you will live differently, making wiser decisions, and remain committed to God’s purpose faithfully. You will then value righteousness, obedience, and spiritual growth above temporary pleasures and worldly recognition.
Action Plans
- Focus daily upon eternal priorities through prayer, worship, obedience, and godly living.
- Avoid worldly distractions weakening spiritual focus, eternal awareness, and commitment toward God.
- Study the Scripture consistently to strengthen eternal perspective, wisdom, discernment, and spiritual maturity.
Covenant Gate Hymnals 29: SS&S 642: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD
What a glory he sheds on our way
While we do his good will, he abides with us still
And with all who will trust and obeyTrust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies
But his smile quickly drives it away
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh nor a tear
Can abide while we trust and obey
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share
But our toil he doth richly repay
Not a grief nor a loss, not a frown or a cross
But is blest if we trust and obey
But we never can prove the delights of his love
Until all on the altar we lay
For the favor he shows, and the joy he bestows
Are for them who will trust and obey
Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at his feet
Or we will walk by his side in the way
What he says we will do, where he sends we will go
Never fear, only trust and obey
