CONVICTION AS A GIFT

CONVICTION AS A GIFT

Text: Proverbs 3:11–12

11 My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction:

12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

CONVICTION AS A GIFT

Memory Verse: 2 Corinthians 7:10“Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.”

Today, many people avoid messages that make them feel uncomfortable. They only want to hear what makes them feel good. But when someone hears a message that touches the heart and makes them feel sad or sorry for their sins, that is not a bad thing. In fact, it is a gift from God. This feeling is called conviction.

Conviction is when the Holy Spirit shows you that you have done wrong and need to turn back to God. It is not meant to make you feel hopeless; it is meant to help you see the truth. It is a sign that God still cares for you and is calling you to change. In Acts 2, Peter preached boldly to a large crowd. He did not try to make them feel comfortable. He told them the truth: that Jesus, the one they had crucified, was the Son of God. When the people heard this, the Bible says they were “cut to the heart.” That means they felt deep pain and sorrow. But this pain was not useless, it led them to ask a powerful question: “What shall we do?”

This question was the beginning of a new life. When a person asks, “What should I do?” after hearing the truth, it means the heart is ready for change. Peter answered them, “Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.” That day, about 3,000 people were saved.

Conviction is like a warning light in a car; it tells you that something is wrong so that you can fix it. It is not meant to destroy you, but to guide you back to God. If you feel convicted after reading the Bible or hearing a sermon, you should thank God. It means He is still speaking to you, still giving you a chance to repent and be saved. So instead of running from hard truths, you should welcome them. Conviction shows that your heart is still soft. It shows that God is still working in you.

That pain in your heart is not punishment, it is a sign of mercy. It means God still loves you and is calling you closer to Him.

OVENANT GATE HYMNALS 15; SS&S 607 I AM THINE, O LORD, I HAVE HEARD THY VOICE

    1. 1.     I am Thine, O Lord, I have heard Thy voice,
      And it told Thy love to me;
      But I long to rise in the arms of faith,
      And be closer drawn to Thee.

               Refrain

               Draw me nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
             To the cross where Thou hast died;
               Draw me nearer, nearer, nearer, blessed Lord,
           To Thy precious, bleeding side.

      2.     Consecrate me now to Thy service, Lord,
      By the power of grace divine;
      Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope,
      And my will be lost in Thine.

      3.     O the pure delight of a single hour
      That before Thy throne I spend,
      When I kneel in prayer, and with Thee, my God,
      I commune as friend with friend!
      4.     There are depths of love that I may not know
      Till I cross the narrow sea;
      There are heights of joy that I may not reach
      Till I rest in peace with Thee.

Today’s Prayer

    2. Holy Spirit, keep my heart soft to Your truth and lead me toward lasting change.
    3. Father, convict others lovingly so that they can turn to You and receive the gift of salvation.
