ALTARS OF FEAR vs. ALTARS OF BOLDNESS
Bible Text: Judges 6:11–15
- “And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.
- And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.
- And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the Lord be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt? but now the Lord hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites?
- And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might… have not I sent thee?
- And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”
Memory Verse: 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Fear is one of the enemy’s most ancient and effective spiritual altars, designed to trap destinies and silence purpose. It often works subtly, yet its influence is profound, shaping choices, weakening confidence, and delaying obedience to divine instructions. The story of Gideon illustrates this tension vividly. Though he was addressed as a “mighty man of valour,” he was found hiding, overwhelmed by fear and uncertainty.
Fear acts like a spiritual gatekeeper, positioning itself at the threshold of destiny. It whispers doubt, magnifies obstacles, and convinces individuals that progress is impossible. Under its influence, people hesitate, withdraw, and settle for less than what God has ordained. However, God never leaves the altar of fear unchallenged. He responds with a greater altar, the altar of boldness, ignited and sustained by the power of the Holy Spirit.
The Scripture consistently reveals that boldness is the force that dismantles fear. David stood before Goliath with unwavering confidence, not in himself but in God. Joshua led Israel in obedience around Jericho despite unconventional instructions. Esther risked her life by approaching the king, and Peter, once fearful, boldly proclaimed the gospel at Pentecost. In each case, boldness rose above fear, and limitations that seemed immovable were broken.
Boldness is not the absence of fear but the triumph over it through faith and trust in God. When the altar of boldness is established, it shifts perspective, what once seemed impossible becomes achievable through divine empowerment.
Today, the call is clear: confront and dismantle every altar of fear that has held you back. In its place, build and nurture the altar of divine courage. As boldness rises within you, barriers will fall, purpose will awaken, and destiny will move forward with clarity and power.

- When we stand by the cross,
Where the Lamb’s blood was shed,
Every altar of darkness must fall;
For the covenant flame
Now is speaking our name,
And the Lord breaks the chains of them all.
Refrain
Covenant freedom we claim,
Through the blood we are free;
Every bondage forever is gone,
At the altar of grace
We receive heaven’s place,
And the power of the cross leads on.
- Ancient voices may cry
From foundations gone by,
Trying still to control destiny;
But the blood of the Lamb
Has rewritten our plan,
And declares we are fully set free.
- Like the servant of God
Who tore Baal’s altar down,
We arise by the Spirit and stand;
Every covenant wrong
Cannot linger for long,
When the Lord builds His throne in the land.
- Now the altar of Christ
Speaks redemption and life,
And the curse has no hold anymore;
Generations shall rise
Under covenant skies,
For the Lord has unlocked every door.
- Every altar of night
Loses power and right
When the covenant altar appears;
For the blood now proclaims
Victory over our names,
And the Lord wipes away all our fears.
6. So we lift up our voice
And in Christ we rejoice,
For the battle is won by His grace;
Every altar must bow
To the Saviour just now,
And His kingdom shall reign in this place.

Destroying the Spirit of Fear
2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Fear operates like a shadow in a dark room, it appears powerful until light enters. When the Holy Spirit releases power, love, and a sound mind, fear loses its authority. Just as sunlight dissolves darkness instantly, divine courage drives away intimidation. You must recognize that fear is not their inheritance; it is an intruder that must be expelled by the authority of God’s Spirit.
Prayers:
- Father, uproot every spirit of fear operating in my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- Lord, fill my spirit with power, love, and a sound mind in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- I reject every intimidation sent against my destiny in Jesus’ name. Amen.
-
Breaking Fear of Failure
Joshua 1:9 “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
Fear of failure is like a chain tied to the ankle of a runner. Even though the runner has strength and ability, the chain slows progress. Many destinies remain stagnant because fear predicts defeat before the journey begins. God’s command to Joshua should remind us that divine presence guarantees victory. Courage removes the chain and allows destiny to run freely toward fulfillment.
Prayer Points
- Lord, break every fear of failure in my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- Father, give me courage to pursue every divine assignment in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- I declare that God’s presence guarantees my success in Jesus’ name. Amen.
-
Breaking Fear of Rejection
Isaiah 41:10 “Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God…”
Fear of rejection behaves like a locked door inside the mind. Even when opportunities appear, the person refuses to knock because they expect rejection. Yet God promises His presence and support. When you know that God is standing with you, human opinions lose their power. Confidence grows, and doors that once seemed impossible begin to open.
Prayer Points
- Father, remove every fear of rejection from my heart in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- Lord, establish divine confidence within me in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- I step into opportunities without intimidation in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Breaking Fear of Poverty
Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
Fear of poverty is like a drought mentality, convincing a person that resources will always be scarce. When this altar speaks, people shrink their vision and avoid bold ventures. A drought mentality is a mindset shaped by perceived lack, where a person is consistently expecting scarcity, limitation, and insufficiency, even when opportunities or resources are available. It’s not just about physical shortage; it’s an internal belief system that says, “there is never enough,” whether money, success, love, ideas, or spiritual growth.
This kind of thinking often develops from past experiences of hardship, failure, or prolonged waiting. Over time, it conditions a person to think defensively rather than expansively. Instead of seeing possibilities, they see obstacles. Instead of taking steps forward, they hold back out of fear that things will run out or fall apart.
A drought mentality shows up in different ways:
- Constant fear of losing what you have
- Difficulty trusting new opportunities
- Reluctance to invest, give, or take risks
- Comparing yourself to others and feeling there’s “not enough to go around”
- Settling for survival instead of pursuing growth
Spiritually it reflects a struggle to trust God’s provision. For example, even after witnessing miracles, the Israelites often doubted whether God would provide again revealing a mindset stuck in scarcity rather than faith.
The opposite of a drought mentality is an abundance mindset, the belief that there is enough, and that growth, provision, and opportunity are possible. This doesn’t ignore real challenges, but it refuses to be controlled by them.
Breaking free from a drought mentality involves:
- Renewing your thinking (intentionally challenging negative assumptions)
- Remembering past provisions or victories
- Practicing gratitude
- Taking small steps of faith, even when uncertain
- Surrounding yourself with truth, encouragement, and vision
In simple terms, a drought mentality says, “I will run out,” while a healthy, faith-filled mindset says, “There is more available, and I can move forward.”
But God’s promise of provision changes the narrative. Faith sees abundance where fear sees lack. Trusting God’s supply allows believers to pursue divine opportunities without anxiety.
Prayers
- Lord, break every drought mentality in my life and fill me with abundance thinking in Jesus’ Amen
- Father, replace fear and scarcity with bold faith, provision, and unshakable trust in You in Jesus’ name. Amen
- Holy Spirit, renew my mind daily and help me walk confidently in divine opportunities in Jesus’ name. Amen
-
Breaking Fear of the Future
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil…”
Fear of the future is like walking through fog, where every step looks uncertain. The enemy uses uncertainty to create anxiety about tomorrow. Yet God assures us that His plans are filled with hope and peace. When you trust God’s promises, the fog of fear begins to clear, and the path forward becomes visible through faith.
Prayers:
- Father, remove anxiety about my future in Jesus’ name. Amen
- Lord, align my life with Your plans of peace in Jesus’ name. Amen
- I walk forward in faith and confidence in Jesus’ name. Amen
-
Breaking Fear of Spiritual Attack
Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?”
Fear of spiritual attack acts like a rumor in a village, spreading panic even when danger is absent. When you focus on the power of darkness, fear grows stronger. But when you focus on God’s strength, fear collapses. The presence of God becomes a fortress protecting the soul from intimidation.
Prayers:
- Lord, deliver me from every fear of spiritual attack in Jesus’ name. Amen
- Father, establish Your protection around my life in Jesus’ name. Amen
- I declare that the Lord is my strength and defense in Jesus’ name. Amen
- Receiving the Spirit of Boldness
Acts 4:29 “And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word.”
Boldness is like fire placed inside cold iron. The iron that was once rigid and cold becomes glowing and powerful. When the Holy Spirit fills you with boldness, hesitation disappears and courage emerges. The apostles prayed for boldness, and heaven responded with power. Boldness empowers you to fulfill divine assignments without intimidation.
Prayers
- Lord, baptize me with supernatural boldness in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- Father, remove every trace of timidity from my spirit in Jesus’ name. Amen
- Let the fire of courage burn within me in Jesus’ name. Amen
-
Ask for Courage to Confront Giants
1 Samuel 17:45 “Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword… but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts.”
Giants in life behave like mountains blocking a road. Fear tells the traveler to turn back, but boldness climbs the mountain or breaks through it. David’s courage came from knowing the authority of God’s name. When you confront challenges with faith, the mountains that once looked impossible begin to move.
Prayers:
- Lord, give me courage to confront every giant in my life in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- Father, empower me to overcome every obstacle in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- I face challenges with confidence in God’s power in Jesus’ name. Amen
-
Courage to Enter New Opportunities
Deuteronomy 31:6 “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not… for the LORD thy God… will not fail thee.”
New opportunities often appear like a bridge over deep water. Fear focuses on the depth below, while faith focuses on the strength of the bridge. When you trust that God’s promise never to fail you, you can cross into new seasons without hesitation. Courage enables destiny to move forward.
Prayers:
- Father, give me courage to step into new seasons in Jesus’ name. Amen
- Lord, remove hesitation from my spirit in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- I enter every opportunity prepared by God in Jesus’ name. Amen.
-
Courage to Obey God
Acts 5:29 “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.”
Obedience sometimes is like sailing against the wind. The pressure of opinions and expectations can discourage faithfulness. Yet boldness empowers you to remain committed to God’s instructions regardless of opposition. When obedience prevails, divine favour and breakthrough follow.
Prayers
- Lord, give me courage to obey Your Word to the letters in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- Father, help me stand firm despite opposition in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- I choose obedience over fear in Jesus’ name. Amen.
11. Courage to Speak Truth
Proverbs 28:1 “The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.”
Truth requires courage. A lion does not ask for permission before roaring; it announces its presence with authority. Righteousness produces boldness. When you live uprightly, confidence replaces fear. You voice carry authority because you stand on the truth.
Prayers:
- Lord, make me bold as a lion in righteousness in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- Father, give me courage to speak the truth at all times and in any circumstance in Jesus’ name. Amen
- I reject silence that born from fear in Jesus’ name. Amen
-
Courage in Spiritual Warfare
Ephesians 6:10 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”
Spiritual warfare is like a battlefield where armor determines survival. Fear weakens soldiers, but divine strength empowers them. When you rely on God’s power, you become resilient against attacks. Strength in the Lord transforms timid hearts into victorious warriors.
Prayers:
- Lord, strengthen me for spiritual warfare in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- Father, empower me with Your strength in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- I overcome every battle through God’s strength in Jesus’ name. Amen.
13. Establishing the Altar of Courage
Psalm 27:14 “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart.”
Courage grows like a tree planted beside water. Through patience and trust in God, the roots grow deeper and stronger. Waiting on the Lord renews spiritual strength and builds lasting courage. Over time, the altar of courage becomes firmly established in your life.
Prayers:
- Lord, strengthen my heart with courage in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- Father, establish boldness in my spirit in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- I refuse to be controlled by fear in Jesus’ name. Amen.
-
Walking in the Boldness of the Spirit
Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you…”
The Holy Spirit turns ordinary believers into extraordinary witnesses. His power is like electricity flowing through a wire, energizing everything it touches. Without power the wire is inactive; with power it becomes effective. When the Holy Spirit empowers you, fear disappears and boldness becomes your natural expression in life and ministry.
Prayers
- Holy Spirit fill me with divine power in Jesus’ name. Amen
- Lord transform my weakness into boldness in Jesus’ name. Amen
- I walk daily in the courage of the Spirit in Jesus’ name. Amen
DECLARATION
Beloved people of God, today we rise in the authority of the Word of God to confront and dismantle every altar of fear that has spoken against our destinies. According to the Scripture in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Therefore, I declare that fear has no legal authority over your life your family, our ministry, or your assignments in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Let it be declared over your home, your community, and every sphere of influence that the spirit of fear has lost its grip. The power of God is breaking limitations, restoring confidence, and releasing supernatural boldness into our hearts.
