Ending Spiritual Famine: Return to the Word of God

Text: 2 Timothy 3:16–17

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

Psalm 119:105–111

105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

106 I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments.

107 I am afflicted very much: quicken me, O Lord, according unto thy word.

108 Accept, I beseech thee, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O Lord, and teach me thy judgments.

109 My soul is continually in my hand: yet do I not forget thy law.

110 The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not from thy precepts.

111 Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart.

Ending Spiritual Famine: Return to the Word of God

Memory Verse: Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Spiritual famine ends where the Word of God is restored to its rightful place, at the centre of our lives. When people stop feeding on Scripture, their spirits grow weak, their discernment become dull, and the presence of God seems distant. But revival begins the moment the Bible is reopened, read, and obeyed.

Joshua 1:8 reveals the secret of spiritual nourishment: “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night…” Meditation on God’s Word renews the mind, strengthens the heart, and guides the steps. It is not enough to own a Bible; it must own you. The more the Word fills your heart, the less room there is for fear, confusion, or sin.

Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” The Word of God is both food and light, it sustains the soul and gives direction. When the Word is ignored, darkness prevails; but when it is embraced, understanding and transformation follow.

A nation or a believer that abandons the Word walks toward destruction, but those who return to it experience revival. King Josiah discovered this in 2 Kings 22, when the lost Book of the Law was found. As soon as it was read, repentance swept through the land, and renewal began. That is the power of the Word, it revives, reforms, and restores.

The Bible is a spiritual rain to a dry land. Every verse you meditate on waters your soul, softens your heart, and makes your spirit fruitful again. To end spiritual famine, you must not only read the Word but live it daily. Study it, meditate on it, and obey it, this is how revival takes root and grows.

Action Plans:

  • Restore your daily engagement with the Word of God through intentional Bible study.
  • Meditate on God’s Word continually, speaking and reflecting on it day and night.
  • Practice obedience to the Word, applying its truth in your daily life.

COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 27: SS&S 173 THERE’S A LIGHT THAT IS SHINING IN DARKNESS

  1. There’s a light that is shining in darkness,

While we wait for the dawning of day;

And it cheers us along on our journey,

Till the shadows shall vanish away !

  1. So we’ll wait and watch for the dawning,

The day of eternity blest;

Then take the wings of the morning,

And fly away to our rest.

  1. From the sure word the prophets

have spoken, [the gloom;

There is light flashing forth through

For the Scripture can never be broken,

And the King in His glory will come.

  1. Now we sing ‘mid the darkness and shadows, ;

And we pray and we watch for the dawn

Till the Day-star, in glory arising,

Shall betoken the coming of morn.

His Second Coming

  1. We are not of the night nor of darkness,

Let us walk, then, as children of day;

Our weeping shall be for a moment,

And our joy shall ne’er vanish away !
