Ending Spiritual Famine: Seek the Holy Spirit

Text: John 7:37–39

37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Ending Spiritual Famine: Seek the Holy Spirit

Memory Verse: Isaiah 44:3 “For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my Spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring.”

Spiritual famine ends where the Holy Spirit is welcomed. He is the divine rain that softens hardened hearts and revives dry souls. Without Him, religion becomes a routine and worship becomes empty. The Spirit of God is the breath that turns lifeless forms into living vessels.

In John 7:37–39, Jesus cried out, “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink… out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” The Holy Spirit is that living water. When He fills you, spiritual dryness disappears, and passion for truth returns. Just as rain transforms a barren desert into a fruitful field, the Spirit revives every area of life that has withered.

Ezekiel experienced this in his vision of the dry bones in Ezekiel 37:9–10. When the wind of the Spirit blew, the bones came together, flesh returned, and life was restored. This is what happens when you or a church seeks the Holy Spirit sincerely. Lifeless worship becomes vibrant, faith is rekindled, and holiness returns. The Spirit restores what human effort cannot produce, the freshness of God’s presence.

Without the Spirit, there can be knowledge but no revelation; activity but no power; motion but no transformation. The early church understood this. In Acts 2:1–4, they waited and prayed until the Holy Ghost descended. That outpouring ended their spiritual waiting season and birthed revival. Every lasting move of God begins with a fresh outpouring of the Spirit.

To seek the Holy Spirit is to acknowledge dependence on Him. He is the Counsellor, Comforter, and Power of the believer. He convicts of sin, reveals the truth, and fill hearts with divine joy. When you thirst for Him in prayer and surrender, He floods your life with grace and power.

The answer to today’s spiritual dryness is not more programs but more of the Holy Spirit. When He comes, He brings rain to the wilderness of the soul and turns famine into fruitfulness.

Action Plans:

  • Thirst for the Holy Spirit through prayer and wholehearted surrender.
  • Invite the Holy Spirit daily to fill and guide your life.
  • Depend on the Holy Spirit for power, revelation, and spiritual renewal.

COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 99 “FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT’S POWER” By Apostle James Abache

  1. Not with wine that leads to excess,

But with the Spirit’s power,

We surrender, Lord, our hearts,

To You each moment, hour.

Fill us, O Lord, we humbly pray,

Guide us in Your holy way,

Let Your wind blow, and we’ll obey,

Spirit, fill us every day.

Refrain:

Fill us, fill us, Holy Spirit,

Take control, we yield to You,

With each breath, we seek Your presence,

To live in all we say and do.

  1. Like a ship that seeks the breeze,

We stretch our sails to You,

Under Your guidance, let us go,

Wherever You lead us through.

Not by our strength, but by Your might,

We walk by faith, not by sight,

In Your grace, we find our light,

Spirit, fill us, make us right.

  1. To the call of the Spirit’s wind,

We choose to surrender, Lord,

In Your love, our hearts are freed,

To follow Your every word.

Guide us, lead us, as we yield,

To Your presence, our hearts sealed,

Holy Spirit, let us feel,

Your control, our lives to heal.

Outro:

Fill us, Spirit, fill us, we pray,

Lead us, guide us, every day.
