Freedom Has a Price

Freedom Has a Price

Bible Text: 1 Peter 1:18–21

18 knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers,

19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish or spot, the blood of Christ;

20 who was foreknown indeed before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in this last age for your sake,

21 who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead, and gave him glory; so that your faith and hope might be in God.

Memory Verse

1 Corinthians 6:20 “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

A man imprisoned for a crime he could never afford to pay for. The court demanded for an enormous penalty before he can be released. Day after day, he watches others walk free while he remains behind bars, helpless and hopeless. Then, one day, a wealthy benefactor enters the courtroom, pays the full penalty on his behalf, and hands him the official document declaring, “Paid in Full.” The prisoner walks out, not because he earned his freedom, but because someone else paid the price.

This is the story of our salvation. Humanity was imprisoned by sin, condemned under God’s righteous judgment, and incapable of paying the debt of guilt. Yet Jesus Christ stepped in, paid the full price with His precious blood, and secured our eternal freedom. Salvation is free to receive, but it was infinitely costly to provide. Freedom is never without cost. Every freedom enjoyed today; whether national, personal, or spiritual, has been purchased through sacrifice. Our greatest freedom, freedom from sin and eternal condemnation, came at the highest price ever paid: the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ on the Cross. The Bible teaches that all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. Sin placed humanity under bondage, separating us from God and making us slaves to guilt, fear, and death. No amount of good works, religious activities, wealth, or human effort could pay this debt. Gold and silver could not purchase redemption because the value of a soul exceeds every earthly treasure.

God, in His immeasurable love, sent His only begotten Son to become the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Jesus lived a sinless life and willingly laid down His life at Calvary. His blood satisfied the demands of divine justice and opened the way for reconciliation with God. As Isaiah prophesied, “He was wounded for our transgressions… and with his stripes we are healed” Isaiah 53:5. Because Christ has paid the price, salvation is offered freely to everyone who believes. However, accepting this gift requires faith, repentance, and surrender. Freedom cannot be enjoyed by merely admiring the Cross; it must be embraced by trusting the One who died upon it. Understanding the price Christ paid should transform the way we live. We no longer belong to ourselves because we have been “bought with a price” 1 Corinthians 6:20. Our lives should reflect gratitude, holiness, obedience, and wholehearted devotion to the One who redeemed us.

Never treat your salvation casually. Every drop of Christ’s blood testifies to the immeasurable value God places on your soul. The Cross declares both the seriousness of sin and the greatness of God’s love. Since such a priceless sacrifice secured your freedom, honour Christ by living each day in the liberty He purchased for you.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 65: “FREEDOM IN CHRIST”

By Apostle James Abache
Stanza 1

Once I was lost in shadows,
Bound by fear and sin’s decree,
But Christ has broken every chain,
He set my spirit free.
No more a slave to sorrow,
His love has rescued me;
In Him, I find my refuge,
His grace my victory.

Refrain

I am free, I am free,
No longer in bondage, I stand redeemed;
In the light of His mercy,
I walk in joy, my heart’s agleam.
For the Spirit of life within me,
Declares my soul is free,
Forever I’ll sing His praises,
In Christ, I am free!

Stanza 2

The weight of sin is lifted,
His peace now fills my soul,
With every step, I follow,
He makes my spirit whole.
Fear no longer holds me captive,
For love has set me free;
I rise in faith and courage,
A new identity.

Bridge

Chains are broken, hope restored,
In His arms, I find my peace;
Every fear and doubt released,
In His love, my soul’s increased.
