HUMAN & NEUTRAL CHANNELS; Conscience

Text: : Romans 2:14–16

14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

HUMAN & NEUTRAL CHANNELS; Conscience

  • Memory Verse: Acts 24:16 “And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.”Conscience is an internal moral awareness that helps distinguish between right and wrong. It serves as an inner witness that either approves or warns against certain actions, thoughts, or decisions. God designed the conscience to help guide human behavior and support moral accountability. It communicates through inner peace when actions are right and through discomfort or conviction when something is wrong.

The conscience works closely with the human spirit and mind, but it must be properly trained and aligned with God’s truth. Without spiritual guidance, the conscience may become unreliable. The Scripture teaches that conscience can exist in different conditions depending on spiritual health and exposure to truth.

    The conscience can be:

    • Clean – A clear conscience reflects alignment with truth and obedience to God (Acts 24:16).
      • Weak – A weak conscience lacks strength and can be easily confused or misled (1 Corinthians 8:7).
      • Defiled – A defiled conscience becomes corrupted through sin and repeated disobedience (Titus 1:15).
      • Seared – A seared conscience becomes insensitive and no longer responds to truth or conviction (1 Timothy 4:2).

God desire that you maintain a clean and sensitive conscience. This happens through obedience, repentance, and regular exposure to God’s Word. The Holy Spirit also works through the conscience to provide conviction and guidance. A healthy conscience supports spiritual growth and helps you remain aligned with God’s will.

The conscience is like a spiritual alarm system. When functioning properly, it warns of danger and protects them from harm. But if ignored repeatedly, it may stop responding, leaving you unprotected.

    Action Plans:

    • Keep your conscience clean through obedience and repentance.
    • Study God’s Word to train your moral awareness.
    • Respond quickly when your conscience signals is warning.

COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 29: SS&S 642:: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD

  1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of his Word
What a glory he sheds on our way
While we do his good will, he abides with us still
And with all who will trust and obeyTrust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey
  1. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies
But his smile quickly drives it away
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh nor a tear
Can abide while we trust and obey
  1. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share
But our toil he doth richly repay
Not a grief nor a loss, not a frown or a cross
But is blest if we trust and obey
  1. But we never can prove the delights of his love
Until all on the altar we lay
For the favor he shows, and the joy he bestows
Are for them who will trust and obey
  1. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at his feet
Or we will walk by his side in the way
What he says we will do, where he sends we will go
Never fear, only trust and obey
