Bible Text: 1 Corinthians 3:1–3
Brothers, I couldn’t speak to you as to spiritual, but as to fleshly, as to babies in Christ.
I fed you with milk, not with meat; for you weren’t yet ready. Indeed, not even now are you ready,
for you are still fleshly. For insofar as there is jealousy, strife, and factions among you, aren’t you fleshly, and don’t you walk in the ways of men?
Memory Verse:
Hebrews 5:14 “But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”
A person with blurred vision can see partially but struggles to recognize details clearly. Carnal believers possess spiritual life but often lack discernment, clarity, and spiritual understanding because spiritual maturity remains underdeveloped. Partial spiritual blindness describes the condition of carnal believers who are saved but lack spiritual clarity and discernment. Although they have accepted Christ, their spiritual understanding remains weak because they are still controlled largely by fleshly desires, worldly thinking, and spiritual immaturity. The Bible refers to such believers as babes in Christ. They struggle to understand deeper spiritual truths because spiritual growth has been limited. Carnal believers often experience confusion, inconsistency, emotional instability, and poor spiritual judgment. Their decisions may be influenced more by feelings, opinions, and circumstances than by God’s truth and guidance.
Partial blindness can develop when believers neglect prayer, Scripture study, obedience, and fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Sin, distractions, pride, unforgiveness, and worldly influences also weaken discernment and spiritual sensitivity. Although these believers love God, spiritual immaturity prevents them from walking consistently in wisdom and victory. Carnal believers may struggle with jealousy, division, compromise, and inconsistent spiritual commitment. They often find it difficult to recognize deception quickly or apply biblical principles correctly during challenges. Without spiritual maturity, growth becomes slow and instability increases.
However, God desires believers to grow from spiritual infancy into maturity. Through consistent prayer, studying the Scripture, obedience, and dependence upon the Holy Spirit, spiritual discernment becomes stronger. As you mature spiritually, confusion decreases and clarity increases. Spiritual growth requires intentional pursuit of God daily. Mature believers develop stronger discernment because they continually practice obedience and apply God’s truth faithfully. The Holy Spirit helps believers overcome carnality and grow in wisdom, understanding, and spiritual stability.

Covenant Gate Hymnals 29: SS&S 642: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD
What a glory he sheds on our way
While we do his good will, he abides with us still
And with all who will trust and obey
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies
But his smile quickly drives it away
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh nor a tear
Can abide while we trust and obey
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share
But our toil he doth richly repay
Not a grief nor a loss, not a frown or a cross
But is blest if we trust and obey
But we never can prove the delights of his love
Until all on the altar we lay
For the favor he shows, and the joy he bestows
Are for them who will trust and obey
Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at his feet
Or we will walk by his side in the way
What he says we will do, where he sends we will go
Never fear, only trust and obey
