LIVING IN SECRECY

LIVING IN SECRECY

Text: John 3:19-20

19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

LIVING IN SECRECY

Memory Verse: Ecclesiastes 12:14 “For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”

John 3:20 says, “For everyone practicing evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.” This is a sobering truth: secrecy is a key indicator of a life drifting into darkness. When a person begins to hide their actions, whether in secret conversations, hidden addictions, dishonesty, or unconfessed sins, it shows that these deeds cannot withstand the light of God’s truth.

Sin thrives in secrecy, just as Fungus grows in dark, damp corners, undisturbed, silent, and spreading. What begins as a private compromise can become a spiritual stronghold. The enemy often whispers, “No one needs to know. Just keep it to yourself.” But the longer sin stays hidden, the more control it gains. Secrecy becomes a prison of guilt and shame, eroding a believer’s confidence before God and distancing them from His presence.

Living in secrecy is spiritually dangerous. It blocks transparency, cuts off accountability, and prevents true repentance. Like termites eating away at wood from the inside, secret sins can silently destroy a believer’s spiritual life. Everything may appear fine outwardly, but collapse often comes without warning.

God, however, sees all. According to Ecclesiastes 12:14, He will bring every secret thing into judgment, whether good or evil. This truth is not meant to condemn, but to call us back into the light. God does not expose sin to shame us, but to free us. He invites us to bring hidden things into the light through confession, so healing can begin.

If you are living with secrets today, remember this: the longer sin stays hidden, the stronger its grip becomes, but the moment it’s brought into the light, its power breaks. Choose transparency. Walk in truth. Let the light of Christ expose and heal what secrecy has tried to cover.

Are there areas of your life you are keeping in the dark? What would it look like to bring them into the light today?

COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 87 “REDEEMED FROM CHAINS OF DARKNESS” By Apostle James Abache

  1. From the depths of darkest night,

Where the shadows hide the light,

I was bound in chains of fear,

Held by powers far and near.

But my Savior heard my cry,

Spoke His name and set me free.

Now in His grace, I rise and stand,

Redeemed by His mighty hand.

Refrain:

I am free, I am free,

By His blood, delivered me!

No more chains, no more strife,

I am saved, and restored to life.

Hallelujah, praise the King,

From the pit, He’s called me out to sing!

  1. Satan’s whispers lost their power,

In the light of that great hour,

When the Lord’s voice called me whole,

Restoring peace unto my soul.

No more torment, no more night,

I am free in His great light.

He has broken every chain,

Nevermore to be enslaved!

Bridge:

In His name, the demons flee,

At His feet, I find my peace.

Victory, forever mine,

In the blood of Christ divine!

  1. Now I walk in freedom’s light,

With my Savior by my side,

For the One who freed my soul,

Now leads me to a life made whole.

I’ll forever praise His name,

For He broke the devil’s claim,

And forever I will sing,

Of the One who is my King.

Today’s Prayer

  1. Lord, shine Your light into every hidden area of my heart. Expose anything I am keeping in darkness, and give me the courage to confess, repent, and walk in the truth. I refuse to live in secrecy, set me free from anything that holds me in shame or guilt.
  2. Father, give me a heart that desires transparency and righteousness. Help me to live openly before You and others, without hidden sin or secret motives. Let my life reflect Your light in both public and private.
  3. Lord, I lift those who are trapped in secret sin or silent struggles. Break the power of shame and fear in their lives. Surround them with people who can guide, love, and restore them. Lead them into Your truth and healing light.
