SELF-CONTROL AND PERSEVERANCE IN TRIALS

Text: Romans 5:3-4

3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

SELF-CONTROL AND PERSEVERANCE IN TRIALS

Memory verse: James 1:12 ” Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”

Self-control is often thought of as resisting temptation, but it is also essential when facing challenges. When life gets tough, self-control helps us keep going and staying strong in our faith, even when things are hard. James 1:12 gives us a beautiful promise: “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” Simply put, when we go through difficult times and remain faithful, God rewards us with eternal life.

When you are climbing a mountain, at first, the path is easy, but as you get higher, the climb gets harder. Your legs start to ache, and the weather may turn against you. This is like the trials we face in life. But instead of giving up, you keep climbing, step by step, knowing the top is worth the effort. The higher you go, the stronger you become. Self-control helps you keep going, even when you are tired or tempted to quit.

During tough times, self-control helps us focus on the bigger picture instead of getting lost in our worries. It stops us from letting fear, doubt, or anxiety take over. For example, when facing sickness, loss, or other struggles, we might feel discouraged. But if we use self-control, we do not let those feelings pull us away from trusting in God. Instead of giving in to despair, we choose to trust God’s timing and goodness, knowing that He has a purpose for everything.

As you go through trials and continue to trust in God, you are building your strength, just like the muscle. The more you practice self-control, the stronger your faith becomes. These moments of perseverance are where your character is shaped, and your hope grow deeper. Instead of reacting with fear or frustration, you stand firm in the hope of eternal life and the love God promised you.

Self-control during trials does not just help us get through difficult times, it shapes us into stronger believers, ready to receive the crown of life that God has promised.

COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 125: GENTLE SPIRIT, FILL MY HEART By Apostle James Abache

    1. 1. In the darkness, lost and weary,Bound by chains, no hope in sight,God’s own hand came down so gently,Bringing mercy, shining bright.Through the storm and deepest sorrow,He has come to set us free,By His grace, we find tomorrow,

      In His love, our victory.

      Refrain

Oh, the power of God’s redemption,

      Healing hearts, and making whole,

From the depths, He lifts us higher,

      Filling every broken soul.

By His stripes, we are forgiven,

In His grace, we find our healing,

      Praise to Jesus, Redeemer,

Power of God’s love and revealing.

      2. Once a captive to my fear,

Wounded, torn, and far from peace,

God’s own hand drew ever near,

      And my burdens found release.

Now I stand, in awe and wonder,

      In His presence, fully free,

All my wounds, He healed with love,

And He calls me to be whole in Thee.

      3. Every chain now broken, shattered,

      Every fear cast far away,

By His blood, our souls are gathered,

      Into light, we walk today.

      Let the healing waters flow,

Through His mercy, hearts are mended,

      By His love, we overflow,

In His power, we are defended.

      Outro:

      Glory, glory to the Savior,

      Whose redemption sets us free,

He is our strength, our healer,

      For all eternity.
