Bible Text: Proverbs 12:1–2
Whoever loves correction loves knowledge,
but he who hates reproof is stupid.
A good man shall obtain favor from Yahweh,
but he will condemn a man of wicked plans.
Memory Verse:
Proverbs 15:10 “Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.”
A patient who refuses medical treatment allows sickness to worsen over time. A person who constantly rejects correction allows spiritual problems to grow deeper. Refusing instruction prevents healing, growth, wisdom, and spiritual maturity. Resistance to correction is a clear sign of spiritual blindness. A spiritually healthy person remains teachable, humble, and willing to receive godly instruction. However, a spiritually blind individual often rejects advice, ignores warnings, and becomes defensive whenever correction is given.
The Bible teaches that loving instruction leads to knowledge and wisdom. Correction helps you recognize mistakes, avoid danger, and grow spiritually. When you continuously reject correction, you limit personal growth and create room for spiritual decline. Pride and stubbornness often cause individuals to resist truth even when it is clearly revealed. A resistant heart usually prefers personal opinions above God’s instructions. Instead of admitting wrong attitudes or actions, spiritually blind persons may justify sin, blame others, or become angry when corrected. Such responses weaken spiritual sensitivity and make repentance more difficult.
God often uses His Word, spiritual leaders, parents, mentors, and the Holy Spirit to provide correction. Those who ignore godly instruction gradually develop hardened hearts. Over time, repeated resistance can lead to deeper spiritual blindness and separation from God’s direction. King David demonstrated the right attitude when Prophet Nathan corrected him concerning sin. David humbled himself, repented sincerely, and received mercy from God. Many biblical examples reveal individuals whose stubbornness led to destruction because they refused correction and ignored divine warnings.
We must remain humble and teachable. Genuine spiritual maturity is shown through willingness to learn, change, and obey God’s truth. Correction should not be viewed as rejection but as God’s loving effort to guide believers into righteousness and wisdom.
Action Plans
- Accept godly correction humbly without anger, excuses, defensiveness, pride, or resentment.
- Examine personal attitudes regularly and repent quickly whenever wrongdoing becomes clearly revealed.
- Remain teachable through prayer, humility, obedience, listening, and faithful study of Scripture.
Covenant Gate Hymnals 125: GENTLE SPIRIT, FILL MY HEART
Gentle Spirit, fill my heart,
With Your peace that will impart,
Calm and love, a healing light,
Guide me through the darkest night.
Refrain:
Gentle, gentle, Lord, I pray,
Guide my steps along Your way.
With Your love and tender grace,
Let me reflect Your holy face.
When I face the trials of life,
Help me bear the pain and strife,
In each moment, gentle still,
Lead me to Your perfect will.
Teach me patience, teach me care,
To be kind and always fair,
May my words, both soft and true,
Bring Your peace in all I do.
Bridge:
In my heart, let gentleness reign,
With Your Spirit, free from pain,
May I share Your perfect peace,
As Your love will never cease.
