Text: Psalm 51:15-17
15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall show forth thy praise.
16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
SPIRITUAL BROKENNESS AND HEALING
Memory Verse: Proverbs 17:22 “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”
A strong-looking wall from the outside, may appear solid and stable. But if there are cracks deep inside the bricks, the whole wall is weak and could fall at any time. Many men are like that wall, looking strong on the outside, but carrying hidden pain and wounds deep within that no one else sees.”
Some men feel broken because they grew up without a father’s love. Others carry heavy shame from sins in their past. Some have been deeply hurt by betrayal, abuse, or failure. Still others face rejection again and again until their spirit feels crushed. Proverbs 17:22 says, “A crushed spirit dries up the bones.” In other words, when your spirit is wounded, even your body and energy suffer.
But here is the good news: God does not turn away from broken people. In fact, He draws near to them. Psalm 51:17 says, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” When you come to God with your broken heart, He does not reject you. He begins to heal you. Spiritual healing is like repairing that cracked wall. God does not throw you away, He restores you, piece by piece. But healing starts when you are honest. You must bring your wounds to God. You say, “Lord, this hurt me. I need Your help.”
Then, you forgive those who have hurt you, and you accept God’s forgiveness for your own sins. This opens your heart like windows, letting in fresh air and light. God fills you with His Holy Spirit, giving you new strength and peace. You begin to hear His voice again guiding, comforting, and reminding you who you are. Healing takes time, just like broken bones take time to heal. But with God, it is possible.
A tree struck by lightning may be scarred, but over time, with sun and rain, it grows again, sometimes even stronger. That’s what God can do with your spirit.
