Spiritual Communication Can Originate from the Flesh (Mind/Emotions)

Text: Galatians 5:15-17

15 But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.

16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

Spiritual Communication Can Originate from the Flesh (Mind/Emotions)

Memory Verse: Romans 12:2 “Be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

The flesh, which includes the natural mind, emotions, and human desires, can also originate messages that influences thoughts, decisions, and actions. The flesh operates through feelings, reasoning, past experiences, fears, and personal desires. Unlike communication from God, which is spiritually pure and aligned with the truth, messages from the flesh is limited and often influenced by circumstances, emotions, and human weakness.

The flesh communicates through emotional impulses such as fear, anger, anxiety, excitement, pride, or desire. These inner signals may appear convincing but are not always reliable because they are based on human perception rather than divine truth. For example, fear may communicate danger where none exists, while pride may create false confidence. The flesh often seeks comfort, self-preservation, and immediate satisfaction rather than long-term spiritual benefit.

Messages from the flesh can conflict with spiritual truth and lead to wrong decisions if not properly controlled. This is why spiritual discipline is necessary. A person who relies only on emotions or human reasoning may miss divine direction. However, when the mind and emotions are submitted to God, they become instruments that support spiritual growth rather than hinder it.

Spiritual maturity involves learning to distinguish between emotional impulses and true spiritual guidance. God designed the mind to serve the spirit, not to control it. When the flesh is undisciplined, it can produce confusion, fear, and instability. But when it is renewed through God’s Word and guided by the Holy Spirit, it becomes calm, stable, and aligned with divine purpose.

Action Plans:

  • Renew your mind daily through prayer and meditation on God’s Word to align your thoughts with the truth.
  • Learn to pause and evaluate emotions before acting on them.
  • Submit your desires and feelings to the Holy Spirit for proper guidance and control.

COVENANT GATE HYMNALS 20; SS&S 134: JESUS, KEEP ME NEAR THE CROSS

    1. Jesus, keep me near the cross,

    there a precious fountain,

    free to all, a healing stream,

    flows from Calvary’s mountain.

    Refrain

    In the cross, in the cross,

    be my glory ever;

    ’til my raptured soul shall find,

    rest beyond the river.

    1. Near the cross, a trembling soul,

    love and mercy found me;

    there the bright and morning star

    sheds its beams around me.

    1. Near the cross! O Lamb of God,

    bring its scenes before me;

    help me walk from day to day,

    with its shadows over me.

    1. Near the cross I’ll watch and wait,

    hoping, trusting ever,

    ’til I reach the golden strand,

    just beyond the river.
